June 26, 201214 yr Anyone know the Pike family? Is this young man a "bad" kid who does come from a great family who have tried and tried to keep their son under control with no luck? Or does he come from a troubled family who seem to not really care what he does. I am not saying anything negative about the Pike family here at all just trying to get an understanding of his upbringing. How about Union College? I know several troubled players from D1 schools have played there over the years. I also feel bad for all the kids who couldnt get into Auburn, when a young man like this is given a free ride and flat out wasted it. I guess we know the answer now to who will have a better career in the SEC Towels or Pike.......
June 26, 201214 yr ^ Very solid family. Grandpa was a minister for many years. Much success in all endeavors for everyone in the family. There is nothing "negative" in his upbringing that I have heard of. If you read the threads on here, most people seem to think he was given too much leeway, not disciplined enough and he pushed the limits. Unless they are sitting at the dinner table with them every night, there is no way anyone really knows how much or how little discipline has been enforced.

A case of a kid with great talent being sheltered his whole life and nothing ever being his fault. Tends to grow an "entitled" mentality.

Kids from the best of families can turn out bad, and kids from the worst families can turn out great. While Mark can be standoffish and not the most personable guy, he was a coach for my youngest sons football team, and my son loved him, and he learned a lot, which is all I could ever ask for. Sometimes the "good kid" genes don't get passed down.

June 26, 201214 yr It sounds like it will be Zeke's call on returning IF he says he will change his ways. It also sounds like there were other issues - maybe pertaining to classroom work and attendance - that factored into him being sent home.

My understanding is that Zeke was very close to being academically ineligibly for the fall semester, and thought attending class was optional.

June 26, 201214 yr I believe Ryan Leaf is in a jail cell in Nebraska some where. Its time for some shock treatment and drastic intervention. Its time to ask Zeke if this is where he wants to be in 15 years. If the answer isn't a resounding no, then tough love is necessary.

I know I've tried to defend him at times because I've seen his wonderful talent, and he is his own worst enemy. But I think the tough love was due about two years too late. I was kind of hoping he'd go to Auburn and get some "attention" that he didn't get in H.S. because he was so much bigger than most. I guess he's going to have to get to rock bottom, like an addict would need to do, before he appreciates his family, talent and what everyone has done for him to get this opportunity. But he's not the first to go thru this, as we have posted on others here who urinated their talent away, and he surely won't be the last. I'm rather disappointed in him myself.
