Read "Riptide" by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child yesterday.

I have one chapter left in Killing Floor which is the first Jack Reacher story. It's OK. My least enjoyable of all of the Reacher novels I've read.

Just started "Without Fail".

Finished The Ridge a week or so ago & it was pretty solid. Not as good as The Prophet, but still solid.

 

Just started the first book in the Kathryn Dance series by Jeffery Deaver. It's called The Sleeping Doll & I'm about halfway through. Pretty good so far.

I liked "Sleeping Doll".

Jeffrey Deaver writes some great stuff and I have enjoyed a couple of his books. But his writing style is more lengthy and involved and harder for me to get into than some of my other favorite authors like Baldacci, Lee Child, Harlan Coben, etc.

I agree on your analysis of Deaver. I like him, but he's not my favorite.

For the Harlan Coben fans, just finished his latest, "Six Years".

I'm helping my 8th grader select books for his summer reading assignments. He likes adventure/survival types of books. He has to choose books at his Accelerated Reading grade level. We are thinking 7.8 through 8.3, approx. Here is want I learned from the AR Book Finder website:

The Hunger Games 5.3 (5th grade 3rd month)

Harry Potter books range from 5th grade to 7th grade

 

So I started to put in some authors that I enjoy.

Bone Collector - Jeffrey Deaver 4.6 book level (4th grade, 6 months)

The Innocent -David Baldacci 4.3 BL

Absolute Power-Baldacci 5.8 BL

 

James Patterson books were in the 4th grade to 6th grade range

Read all 9 of the Reacher books in about 10 days; pretty quick reads. Read "First Off the Tee", a book about golfing presidents. Read "The Sigma Protocol" by Robert Ludlum. Read "The Devil's Teardrop"; Jeffery Deaver. Started on "The Twelfth Card", Jeffery Deaver.

For the Harlan Coben fans, just finished his latest, "Six Years".

Off topic. Not a fan of the paperback at all. The luxury of uninterrupted reading is something I may never know.

Need to be able to frequently look around, assess the surounding activity, then easily find my place again. Paperbacks are not conducive to that.

I just finished the book Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers. I'm thinking about teaching it to my 7th graders this year. I think I'm just going to have to wait and see if they are mature enough. It deals with the Vietnam war, and it's not very sugar coated.

Good young-adult book. Granted, I'm not a teacher, but I think I'd be more inclined to leave it for high schoolers.

Stopped by HPB in Florence yesterday, and found a copy of Split Second. Wanted to read it to compare how the characters are in print to the TV series. Ended up reading it in one sitting!

 

And yes, mine was in LP too! :lol2:
