May 10, 201313 yr WWZ was pretty good. Starting this one tonight: [ATTACH=CONFIG]39856[/ATTACH] This is the fifth installment in Koontz's Odd Thomas series, which is my favorite series. A lot of scares mixed with a lot of humor. I've got about 70 pages to go with this one, but when I read Koontz's humor I sometimes think I'm reading a post by mcpapa. Very similar delivery, which puts a smile on my face. :lol2:
May 21, 201313 yr Picked this up at Barnes & Noble last week. Hadn't heard of this book or the author until I saw a poster at the store. I'm only 100 pages in, but it's reminiscent of The War of the Worlds with a little bit of The Hunger Games sprinkled in.
May 23, 201313 yr Picked up my reading material for the honeymoon last night: The Devil in the White City is a non-fiction book by Erik Larson set in Chicago circa 1893. It combines the stories of Daniel H. Burnham, the architect behind the 1893 World's Fair, and Dr. H. H. Holmes, the serial killer who used Burnham's famed World's Fair Hotel to lure his victims to their deaths. A Land More Kind Than Home is fiction, written by Wiley Cash, and is a thriller about two brothers growing up in a small North Carolina town in the first half of the 20th century. FKYW...check out the review snippet on the cover: "Reads as if Cormac McCarthy decided to rewrite Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird." The River of Doubt is a non-fiction book by Candice Millard about Teddy Roosevelt’s harrowing exploration of the later-named Roosevelt River following his humiliating election defeat in 1912. It marked the the first descent of an unmapped, rapids-choked Brazilian tributary of the Amazon, then known to locals as the River of Doubt, and dubbed one of the most dangerous rivers on earth. The Lost City Of Z is a non-fiction book by David Grann about British explorer Percy Fawcett who disappeared with his son in the Amazon while looking for an ancient lost city during the 1920s in the Amazonian Xingu region. Upwards of 100 people have died or disappeared searching for Fawcett over the years, and the book's author took his own trip to the Amazon, and offers new evidence about how Fawcett died and shows that Z may have really existed.

May 24, 201313 yr ^ How is it? I'm about 200 pages in and I really like it. His writing style works for me. Fast paced story and short chapters keep me turning the pages. Another Robert Langdon story with lots of historical references and actions. He wakes up in an Italian hospital and doesn't know how he got there. The action jumps right from there. If you are a member at Costco they are selling it for $16.
