February 16, 201313 yr Author Haven't been reading much lately but I picked up a copy of James Micheners' "Legacy" at the local thrift store. A short piece of "historical fiction" that Michener wrote in 1987 - the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution. Neat little book that only took an hour and a half to read; but definitely worth four bits.
February 16, 201313 yr Just starting "Team of Rivals" by Doris Kearns Goodwin. Still reading "Team of Rivals" excellent read I'm about halfway through...did work in reading Janet Evanovich - Notorious Nineteen which was funny typical Stephanie Plum. Grandma Mazur is hilarious in this one.
February 16, 201313 yr ^ Stephanie Plum books are a nice bit of escapism. I agree! I must admit that I'm a Ranger kind of girl. In this one Grandma Mazur goes undercover at a nursing home.
February 16, 201313 yr Finished reading (audiobook) Team of Rivals! Outstanding book. Now reading a Steven King novel 11-22-63 and really enjoying it.
February 16, 201313 yr Author ^ I may give that one a shot - I'd like to see King's take on 11-22-63.
February 16, 201313 yr Love me some Grandma Mazur. In my mind I can see Betty White as GM. Lula should belong to Queen Latifah. Stephanie Plum would be Sandra Bullock.

On James Michener---last night while flipping channels I got sucked into Michener's Hawaii, with a young Julie Andrews and lots of other classic actors. Really eye-opening story about Christian missionaries, greed, and predjudism in the Hawaiian islands in the 1800s.
February 18, 201313 yr Finished reading (audiobook) Team of Rivals! Outstanding book. Now reading a Steven King novel 11-22-63 and really enjoying it. Just wondering who did the reading on the audiobook?
February 18, 201313 yr Author On James Michener---last night while flipping channels I got sucked into Michener's Hawaii, with a young Julie Andrews and lots of other classic actors. Really eye-opening story about Christian missionaries, greed, and predjudism in the Hawaiian islands in the 1800s. Good read. I really like Michener's work. I have a bunch of them in hardback - Chesapeake, Texas, Hawaii, Poland, Space, Legacy, Centennial, Caribbean, Alaska, The Source, The Drifters, The Covenant, Mexico, Recessiona, and The Novel. My personal favorite was Chesapeake, as my mom's family came from the Eastern Shore of Maryland; but Hawaii, Alaska and Texas were right up there.
February 18, 201313 yr Just wondering who did the reading on the audiobook? A friend of mine listened to it on audiobook. He said it was read by Richard Thomas - John-Boy Walton.
February 18, 201313 yr Author A friend of mine listened to it on audiobook. He said it was read by Richard Thomas - John-Boy Walton. "Good night, Abe."
February 18, 201313 yr Just wondering who did the reading on the audiobook? 11-22-63: A Novel UNABRIDGED by Stephen King Narrated by Craig Wasson Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln UNABRIDGED | view abridged by Doris Kearns Goodwin Narrated by Suzanne Toren I listened to the unabridged version and Colonels wears blue is correct "John Boy" did the abridged version and I have been told he did a great job of it but I wanted the entire version of the book and not the movie version of the book! Have to say that IMHO they could/should have gotten a much better person to be the Narrator than Suzanne Toren. When you considered that 99.9% of the characters of the book were men, why have a women be the voice of them? Also at times she seemed to get to the point of being bored in her reading. On the other hand Craig Wasson makes the book even better, as he really gets into the characters and makes them come alive and uses his voice to command attention. Have to say, the 11-23-63 audiobook is becoming one of my all time favorites and I have never been a Stephen King admirer! I must admit I hate it when I have to turn off my MP3 players at the end of my ride on the bus as I am enjoying the novel so much!
February 18, 201313 yr Thanks for the info. I have to agree I think it would make perfect sense to have a male reader. I do love reading the book myself because it does have pictures of the Team of Rivals. I enjoy audiobooks but I had to cut myself off from them because I literally passed my exit home when I was listening to one while driving but if I was riding on a bus it would be good.
