May 28, 201313 yr [ATTACH=CONFIG]39969[/ATTACH] Picked this up at Barnes & Noble last week. Hadn't heard of this book or the author until I saw a poster at the store. I'm only 100 pages in, but it's reminiscent of The War of the Worlds with a little bit of The Hunger Games sprinkled in. Pretty good book. When I bought it I didn't realize it was Young Adult fiction. I normally don't like that stuff, but this was a solid read. I understand it's to be a trilogy & that the film rights have been purchased already by Tobey Maguire.

May 28, 201313 yr Picked up my reading material for the honeymoon last night: The Devil in the White City is a non-fiction book by Erik Larson set in Chicago circa 1893. It combines the stories of Daniel H. Burnham, the architect behind the 1893 World's Fair, and Dr. H. H. Holmes, the serial killer who used Burnham's famed World's Fair Hotel to lure his victims to their deaths. A Land More Kind Than Home is fiction, written by Wiley Cash, and is a thriller about two brothers growing up in a small North Carolina town in the first half of the 20th century. FKYW...check out the review snippet on the cover: "Reads as if Cormac McCarthy decided to rewrite Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird." The River of Doubt is a non-fiction book by Candice Millard about Teddy Roosevelt’s harrowing exploration of the later-named Roosevelt River following his humiliating election defeat in 1912. It marked the the first descent of an unmapped, rapids-choked Brazilian tributary of the Amazon, then known to locals as the River of Doubt, and dubbed one of the most dangerous rivers on earth. The Lost City Of Z is a non-fiction book by David Grann about British explorer Percy Fawcett who disappeared with his son in the Amazon while looking for an ancient lost city during the 1920s in the Amazonian Xingu region. Upwards of 100 people have died or disappeared searching for Fawcett over the years, and the book's author took his own trip to the Amazon, and offers new evidence about how Fawcett died and shows that Z may have really existed. That just vaulted up towards the top of my "to-read" list. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm assuming you've read "Stuff" My Dad Says? The Amazon description calls the book "warm and nostalgic". It's kinda strange to imagine the dad that Justin Halpern wrote about being particularly warm and nostalgic.

I saw this when I was looking something up the other day. Any idea what time or channel it will be on? With that said, I literally just finished the third book of this series, Simple Genius, during my lunch break. Baldacci is so talented. Looking forward to starting the fourth book, which I think I've already read once, not realize it was in a series.
