August 5, 201313 yr Just started this one last night. This is my third Koryta book. He has fast become one of my favorite authors. Enjoy! His setting descriptions are so detailed, it makes me want to go there and see for myself. Finished So Cold The River. It was decent. Least favorite of the three Koryta books I've read.
August 5, 201313 yr About a fourth of the way into this one. This is the second part of a trilogy that could be labeled Christian fiction. I don't read much Christian fiction because most of it is crap. But I've found both of these authors to be pretty solid. Dekker is pretty good 3/4 of the time & Ms. Lee is somewhat of a new kid on the block. Her most recent work is a novelization of Judas Iscariot, which I've purchased but have yet to read. Anyway, I started this trilogy because I like both authors, but the first installment was ho-hum. Unfortunately, I have a disorder that requires me to finish a book series once I've started it. I can't explain it, but it's just how I am.

August 14, 201313 yr Just started re-reading "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". It's one of those books that I read as a kid that fundamentally changed what I thought the experience of reading books could be like. I've since read it once every few years. Had the same effect that discovering Roald Dahl had when I was even younger or that J.R.R. Tolkien did late in middle school or that Umberto Eco did when I was in college.

August 22, 201313 yr Sad news this morning, as Mr. Leonard passed away at the age of 87. Had no idea he had written this. I'll have to pick it up now. I read Alif the Unseen, which is a hard book to pin down in a couple of sentences. When I get into fiction, it's rarely as fantastical as a novel like this. Other reviewers likened it to Neil Gaiman, whom I haven't read. In short, it follows the an eventful few days for a computer hacker in the Arab world who unwittingly begins a revolution in his mythical country with the help of the "unseen," or genies in our lingo. I thought it was great and entertaining, but I struggled getting into some of the supernatural aspects of it, though I tried. Just ordered 2666 by Robert Bolaño. Curious how that one will go.
August 22, 201313 yr Had no idea he had written this. I'll have to pick it up now. The book I pictured above is actually a collection of short stories. Fire In The Hole is one of those short stories & is the basis for Season 1, Episode 1 of Justified. There are two Raylan Givens novels that were released prior to Fire In The Hole--one is called Pronto & the other Riding The Rap. They both focus on Raylan's experiences in Miami, prior to being relocated to Kentucky. Leonard's final novel, I believe, was Raylan (released in 2012). I definitely recommend that one. I hope they use some of that material on the television show. Very good stuff.

I just read some stuff about that series because I've seen you guys talking about it. From what I've read, there is one more novel set to come out in the Fall. It's called The Survivor. Regarding the series, it looks like some of the more recent books actually pre-date earlier ones in terms of the story's chronology. Is that right?
August 23, 201313 yr Just got done listening to Absolute Power. Enjoyed it very much and would highly recommended it to anyone! Next up is Killing Kennedy by Bill O'Reilly.
