Usually the most popluar well known player is the face of a franchise. I can guarantee you that's Joey Bats for the Jays. Of course Canadians are bass-ackwards so they probably would do something stupid like market Lawrie over Bautista. :lol:

Of course Canadians are bass-ackwards so they probably would do something stupid like market Lawrie over Bautista. :lol: And they do...They wanted to trade their Joey Bats for our Joey Bats because ours in one of their own...All of their marketing does run with Lawrie as the face...Canadian news articles on this Lawrie incident all say how he hurt the Jays by doing what he did because he is the face of franchise...I agree Bautista would be the logical choice for marketing in the US however playing for a Canadian team he has been replaced by a Canadian...I'm sure before Lawrie got promoted Bautista was their face... May 16, 201214 yr How about answering my question. If there was no intent to throw the bat into the stands then criminally no not assault, could the batter be civilly responsible possible. Remember the Reds pitcher that threw the ball into the stands. Didn't that pitcher plead to a lower misdemeanor in that case?

May 17, 201214 yr I believe players are in most (not all) cases exempt from formal criminal punishment for actions within the game. Their punishment becomes via fines/suspensions, hence why he is not charged with assault. That isn't true at all. There is no exemption, it is totally up to the victims and local authorities as to whether charges are brought. Just because it doesn't normally happen does not mean athletes are exempt in any way.
May 17, 201214 yr 5-10 games sounds reasonable. Anything more than 10 is just crazy. That was a bad call on the last pitch, though.
May 17, 201214 yr Here's what I've never been able to sort out. A pitcher (e.g. Hamels) gets 5 games for admittedly plunking the new kid. What that means, since he's a starter, is that his next start will get pushed back a day. The same 5-game suspension is a different story for position players (and relievers, too) .

But since they lose the same percentage of their salary per day. I think it is more about that.
