May 23, 201214 yr We are talking about Dusty here so it's anyone's guess, but there is no reason he can't be used to get 4, 5, or even 6 outs to get a save. Chapman has been pretty pitch efficient most games this year. Who said that? I've made it clear that if he is used for saves of more than 3 outs I won't be arguing that he shouldn't be used as the "closer". I have no faith that Dusty lets him get 4-6 out saves. I hope I'm wrong.

I didn't realize Guru appointed you the spot of deciding what is bringing anything to a conversation. You were talking nonsense about the Yankees overpaying the back of their pen to fill holes. That would be relevant if the Reds had said holes. They do not. You lose. That is a pointless situational argument that will only lead to more ignorant in game whining and complaining when the actual manager doesn't do what the fat guy on the couch thinks is best... :thumb:

I've been working on my fitness. They clearly said when Torre was there. The Yankees did not have those holes when Torre was there. Mo pitched innings when he wasn't the closer early in his career and threw multiple innings when he did. He also has by far the most saves of anyone recent of more than 3 outs.

Early in his career he pitched multiple innings in front of Wetteland. If Dusty uses Champan in the 8th some and leaves him in to finish the 9th I'll completely change my argument here. I don't feel that will happen. I hope I'm wrong. No he wouldn't. He would be starting. Why is everyone ignoring that teams win almost the exact percentage of games now that they did the last 100+ years when leading going into the 9th inning? Can we please start comparing the Reds to someone like say the Rays that don't have the payroll of the Yankees? I want the Reds to follow their path not the Yankees

Dusty hasn't had a problem using him prior to the switch to closer for multiple innings...He is probably going to pitch in the same games now as he would have as a set up man only at the back end where you have no cushion at all too give up a run or two...I don't see the big difference...It's not like he will pitch multiple innings in every save situation but I see no reason he won't be used multiple inning in 1/3 of his save situations like he was being used in a set up role...Not every Save situation calls for multiple innings and not every tight spot in the 7th or 8th calls for the use of Chapman...For many that don't know Marshall thrived in these same situations in Chicago and will as well in Cincy, he never looked comfortable at the very end of the game...This is what he was signed for...

He would be starting Well yea that isn't the point the point is the Reds did this out of necessity and they have plenty of guys that can get a hold and are above average set up men...If Chapman was starting which you are right he would be it just slipped my mind in comparison, he also wouldn't be available for any of the tight situations that most people want him to be available to pitch in...Then what would we all do :sssh: have to count on the other guys...
