My opinion is the same in all cases though. A team's best reliever should be used in the most critical (post-starter, just for your ignorant comment Spindoc) situations if they're available. If that's the 7th inning, then so be it. If it's the 9th, that works too.

May 23, 201214 yr UKMF, why do you continue to ignore this question? It's very difficult to compare an AL manager's style to an NL manager's style. Torre was one of the few managers who would use his closer for 2 innings (or at least 1+ inning). I LOVE that, but that's much more difficult to do in the NL. It is highly unlikely that Dusty would do this with Chapman for a multitude of reasons. Obviously, one reason is that the Reds are an NL team. Secondly, Dusty (and many on BGP) are concerned that Chapman cannot pitch on consecutive days. Applying that logic, it seems unlikely that Chapman would be available to pitch on a Wednesday after throwing 2 innings on Tuesday. There may be some exceptions (i.e. if he only threw 15 pitches on Tuesday), but generally speaking it seems logical that he'd be unavailable the following game. Third, you're trying to compare Mariano Rivera to Aroldis Chapman. #42 is one of the greatest relievers of all-time and relied primarily on a cutter as opposed to a 100+ mph fastball. Rivera is the type of pitcher whose stuff gets sharper the more frequently he is used (to an extent). Finally, I think the Reds STILL intend for Chapman to crack the starting rotation this year (at least I hope so).
