I think it at least bears mentioning that Chapman may have been over used. Some people thought that might happen if he was moved to closer. Obviously he proved he can be the closer and not only do well but dominate. The question going froward (future years too) is should they do things like not use him with a 3 run lead if he's gone twice in a row? Not use him 3 or 4 times in a row or 5 out of 6? What can they do in the future to combat a dead arm?

 

Easiest solution is to not win as many games. Seriously, I don't think many people expected them to be approaching 90 wins and him appearing in 64 of those games in his first year as closer. I also think that is why they brought Broxton in late. Maybe some foreshadowing that this could be a possibility, if not dead arm, at least him needing a rest prior to the postseason.

 

They may implement a "3 day in a row max", I could see that.

I agree with Crash, as well as think that Marshall has not been as solid as they had hoped in that closer roll either. I think their thought was that when Chapman needed an off day, and they needed someone to finish the game Marshall could do it, hes been sketchy at best in many of those situations.

I will admit, I'm not 100% sure that he went 4 days in a row, anyway. If he's only gone 3 in a row they may implement a 2 in a row rule, at least early on.

Easiest solution is to try to start him. As a starter he is not going to be trying to throw as hard as he can every pitch when he is in. He will be mixing up pitches and different things. Not to mention he wouldn't have to get his arm all warmed up and ready to pitch in a game back to back days and sometimes three days in a row. Which someone mentioned not letting him go three days in a row. If your going to do that, then you might as well try to start him. Which if starting doesn't work out, we already know he can be a dominate closer.

 

Obviously I feel like they should make him a starter, so that is another reason why I think they should haha.
