May 5, 201214 yr Author It was perhaps 15 years into Springsteen's career and I was not a Springsteen fan. A friend of mine was a HUGE fan! Springsteen was coming to Indy for a concert so I went with him. On the drive to Indy we listened to Springsteen the whole way and I read lyrics to his songs on the drive. The concert was his "typical" 3 hour long energy filled show and I walked out a Springsteen fan. People overlook him because of the poppy sound of some of his records, but that's a serious mistake. He typically juxtaposes the overblown, catchy musical stylings with despondent and alienated lyrics to great effect. Or he just makes an entire album of it (Nebraska). And he might be the best live performer going. I've never seen anything like it. That basically documents my history with the Boss. I used to think "he's all right but nothing special." I couldn't have been more wrong. After a friend goaded me into listening to a couple of records instead of just the hits and then seeing him live, I can't get enough. Guy's a genius.
May 5, 201214 yr There are only two reasons to not like Bruce Springsteen: you're lying or you haven't listened to enough Bruce Springsteen. The last thing I would do is lie and I've listened too enough of the Boss to say :puke:. Although I should have mentioned earlier, I love Santa Claus is coming to Town, BUT THAT'S IT.
May 6, 201214 yr I don't find him appealing in the least. It's not really about his political stance at all. Just a personal preference. Of course, Melissa Etheridge doesn't appeal to me either. This.
May 6, 201214 yr This thread makes me sad. "The River" and "Born to Run" are two of my favorite albums by anyone, period.

The first time I saw him live someone in the crowd requested it and they jumped right into it in the middle of June.
May 6, 201214 yr I would argue that anyone who doesn't like or is ambivalent toward Springsteen hasn't heard "Nebraska."
May 6, 201214 yr I would argue that anyone who doesn't like or is ambivalent toward Springsteen hasn't heard "Nebraska." I didn't know the story behind this album until recently. Bruce recorded the demos at home. He then took them to the studio and recorded them with the E Street Band. He didn't like the sound so the album was composed of the demos.
May 7, 201214 yr "Nebraska" I'm embarrassed but I'd never heard this previously. A very good tune to say the least.

He didn't like the sound so the album was composed of the demos. Wasn't just Bruce...it was everyone involved. Producers, The E Street Band, and The Boss. That album is more artistically perfect than the Mona Lisa.
May 7, 201214 yr "Nebraska" This song was written from the perspective of Charles Starkweather. If you don't know who that is, look him up and read about him while your listening to this song.
May 25, 201214 yr I would argue that anyone who doesn't like or is ambivalent toward Springsteen hasn't heard "Nebraska." Jim, I feel the same way about Dylan and "The Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll".
