Difference is Sinatra had a voice....

Apples and oranges if you ask me. Different types of music can make use of different types of singing. If you try putting Frank Sinatra in the middle of a Puccini opera singing Nessun Dorma, he'd sound like he didn't have a voice either.

While I agree with your point, I have to say, as a guy that likes many different voice styles with rock, Springsteen is the bottom of the barrel for me. I like a couple of his songs, but his voice begins to grate on my nerves after a little while. Now, compare his voice to someone as bad as Mellencamp and Springsteen sounds every bit as good as Sinatra.

A friend of mine always says that Springtseen doesn't have much of a voice but is a hell of a singer. I can't really argue.

The quote that started this thread was found on these music critics' album review website. They said they didn't review Springsteen because he sucked. To each their own, but as professional critics I thought that there's probably no quicker way to lose credibility with me than to say that. It would be like a geographer who believes the world is flat. Or a biologist who thinks cells are overrated. Or a meteorologist. You get the picture. So I banned their website from my home network.

The deabate on Bruce's voice reminds me of a conversation between Kris Kristofferson and I believe, Fred Foster. Foster was trying to convince Kristofferson to record his own material.

Kris:"But, I sound like a frog"

Foster:"Yeah, but you're a frog that communicates"
