Wow, I've heard some high numbers, but nothing THIS high.

With all of the changes that Montgomery has went through this past year with the changing/firing of principals and teachers due to underachieving schools, this hire makes me question what is going on over there? I don't know if Happy has ever taught high school, but if he has I know he has not done it in a long time. Is it ethical to pay him or his wife this much for basketball when the academic achievement has been low? Also, what happens if he has not won the region in 2 years? I know 2 years isn't a long time but considering how Bart Rison was ran out and how Tony Wise was let go after a year, they obviously believe they can win and do it quickly. Add in Happy's salary to the mix and you have to believe that regional championships are what is expected? Will he be dumped in 2 or 3 if he can't win?

I assume same thing Wise did, which was something along the lines working with student not coming to school (official title, no clue). As far as Happy's wife, no idea other than working for the superintendent. I know she was a teacher for years in the Scott County school system and was very good at what she did in that capacity.

Wow!!! If the superintendent said that he is certainly putting the pressure on Happy. Pressure from the community may be on him after the way he has handled things in Montgomery County this year.

Unrealistic expectations that is for sure. No way should they have been picked to win the 10th region last year. Watched them over the summer and watched them at least 3 times in the season. They were good but definitely not great. Tony did a great job with them considering getting hired late. No way they win the 10th next season, are they dangerous yes, but winning the region, just a little far fetched. Lose Omar after this season so it will be a while. Mason and Clark are going to be better than Montgomery 9 out of 10 years, and they have been better the last 19 out of 20 years. Reminds me of some college teams that do whatever it takes to win a title but dont think about the reprecussions on the community, the school, or the program. Talked with Happy yesterday, he understands what is ahead of him so dont expect him very long on his own accord. It might not be Morehead but it definitely wont be Montgomery for too long, and then ask your self this Montgomery, who will your next head coach be and what will he get paid :0

That's about a $110,000 raise over what he made as Georgetown College's coach. I was told he made a little over $80,000 per year.

 

How can a high school pay that much for a coach, and what about Title 9 and the girls coaching salary? Seems like there would be an issue there.

My understand is the KDE is already looking into Happy's Hiring.
