May 1, 201214 yr Not proud of it but mine are Kelly Clarkson and Sugarland. Dude Kelly Clarkson rocks!!!
May 1, 201214 yr I'm sure that everyone has some. I'm not talking about music you listen to all time, as we all have our own individual favorites. I'm talking about an artist that maybe your best friends don't even know you like/listen to...or you're too ashamed to admit it publicly. I feel fairly safe in the anonymity here on BGP to be able to admit mine...the Carpenters. Can't beat listening to Karen Carpenter's voice through a set of headphones. Has such a richness and fullness that many of today's pop-tarts just don't have. Anybody else want to admit theirs? Good thread. Only problem I have with it is most of the artists mentioned are nothing to feel guilty about. Karen Carpenter, Neil Diamond, ABBA, Prince, and more recently Sugarland and Kelly Clarkson, etc. are all awesome. Enjoy their music freely. Screw your man card or street cred. In fairness of the thread, I'll throw out a few I like but, many do not. Barry M., Debbie Gibson, some Britney, some Taylor. Bon Jovi, Elton, LL Cool J, and the Cranberries.
May 1, 201214 yr This reminds me of an interview Bruce Springsteen did with Kurt Loder on MTV maybe 15-20 years ago. Kurt: "Do you have any guilty pleasures you listen to? Like ABBA, for instance? Bruce: "I don't know if ABBA's a guilty pleasure...they made some great pop records". I think some think pop is kind of scmaltzy and won't admit listening to it. I constantly listen to Barry Manilow, ABBA, the Carpenters, and, yes "Osmondmania", a compilation of hits by the group, Donny & Marie, along with their solo hits. With that being said, I love all genres of music, as Jim can attest to.

In fairness of the thread, I'll throw out a few I like but, many do not. Barry M., Debbie Gibson, some Britney, some Taylor. Bon Jovi, Elton, LL Cool J, and the Cranberries. Fair enough. I guess what I'd consider a guilty pleasure is an artist that doesn't necessarily "fit" into your whatever your normal listening habits are. I mean, if you're a country fan, then liking Sugarland shouldn't really be a surprise to anyone. Same way with 80's music and the Bangles...or disco and ABBA. I had a roommate in college that was a hard core AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Ozzy fan. Yet, in the middle of all of his CD's, there was one, lone Garth Brooks CD that he had. To me, that was his guilty pleasure. It'd be like finding out that Jim Shue secretly listens to Jimmy Buffett! Just something you'd not expect from that person.

Schue is a HUGE Parrothead!

May 1, 201214 yr The Cranberries - Dolores O'Riordan's voice has always just done it for me. Peter Frampton - He's overplayed and underwhelming on the whole, but whatever. Jack Johnson - I honestly haven't heard a thing by him beyond his first two albums and the Curious George sountrack, but I still like him for some reason or other. Let me think on it, I'm sure I've got some more.
May 1, 201214 yr I'm not embarassed by this group but every so often I enjoy listening to the Guess Whos greatest hits. They had several very good songs.

May 1, 201214 yr Barry M. You must really feel guilty about it if you can't even bring yourself to spell out his name!!
May 1, 201214 yr I've been guilty of not only listening to, but also singing along to Taylor Swift. I can only imagine the shame you feel.
May 1, 201214 yr I've been guilty of not only listening to, but also singing along to Taylor Swift. I stand corrected. You win.
