January 18, 201412 yr Author Funny this thread would be brought up in the Guilty Pleasure thread earlier today. Found myself sitting at a stoplight this afternoon, and suddenly became very aware that not only was I not just humming along, but rather all-out singing (or at least my attempt at it) Rupert Holmes' hit "Escape" (The Pina Colada song). Soooooo glad for sub-freezing temperatures at the time, so that not only were my windows rolled up...but, so was everybody else's at the intersection. :lol2:

I guess the guilty pleasure would be liking something that Shaun Cassidy released...:Blackalien: Wasp (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I've never heard this Shaun Cassidy release either, but considering Todd Rundgren helped him record it, and the various artists that he covered on it does make it sound interesting. Back when artists like him and Andy Gibb were doing there thing the girls in my 7th and 8th grade class were all giddy toting their "Teen Beat" magazines around, and I was not about to have any of it. At the time I was already developing into a music snob and thought that my tastes were far more advanced than the rest of my class. Having been a Partridge Family and Bee Gees fan previous to the disco era and the time that these two guys were releasing their hits, I still had a certain interest with the trivia related to their relationship with aforementioned groups. I wasn't completely on the "Disco Sucks" side of the debate as some stuff did catch my attention, but I was not at all impressed with how the Bee Gees allowed themselves to be associated with it. I was so-so about some of their tunes during this period, and didn't exactly see them as true disco tunes, but still had a hard time even deciphering their lyrics, and was fairly nauseated by how it had somewhat overshadowed the brilliance of the stuff they released before this era. I did however like "How Deep Is Your Love", and "Too Much Heaven" much more than many of their other hits during this time, which in hindsight, I can deal with better now than I did then. With all that said, although I wouldn't allow myself to wear any remote interest I had in that era on my sleeve, I did however dig some of it. My admitted taste during that time were devoted to bands such as Heart, Foreigner, Boston, Steve Miller Band, ELO, KISS, Queen, Bowie, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, The Cars, and of course stuff that came before it like The Beatles and Led and even some of the early New Wave or Punk of the likes of Devo or The Sex Pistols. It was only about a year later that AC/DC would be a game changer, and walked me right into the Metal world where bands like them and Judas Priest started consuming much of my High School days. I didn't stay stuck in Metal for the rest of my life, but during that time it was a challenge for me to listen to anything that didn't have a cool guitar riff attached to it. Anyhow to the the topic at hand, I did quietly dig a few singles by Andy Gibb such as "(Love is) Thicker Than Water", & "Shadow Dancing" mostly because of his association with the Bee Gees, and found them to be catchy. January 19, 201412 yr Although this was not typical of what I was listening to back in the late 80's, this chick had some serious pipes that I could not ignore. At the risk of overkill here are 3 of her hot tunes, and I have to hold back from posting even a few more. Sorry if it's a bit much...
