Larry Vaught caught up with Matt Kamalsky (Draftexpress.com) and Ed Isaacson (NBAdraftblog.com) and neither one of these draft experts have Marquis Teague in their projected lottery for the 2012 NBA draft.

Isaacson thinks Teague’s strong NCAA Tournament play that helped UK win the national championship “opened some eyes” with NBA teams.

“It showed that he had certainly worked on some of his weaknesses from earlier in the year.
I would be stunned if he was a lottery pick, and he wouldn’t be one of the first two point guards picked if he came out.
If he was to go back and pick up where he ended this season, he will find himself in the lottery conversation, and possibly the first point guard picked next year,” Isaacson said.

As I posted in another thread, Teague is the one player who has the most to gain by coming back. The highest I have seen him in any mock draft is #18 and I have seen mock drafts with him not even in round 1. Most drafts have him at the very end of round one.

He SHOULD come back, but no idea if he WILL come back.

Draft express has him at 18 to Dallas and NBADraft.net has him 27 to GS.

I have no inside information to base anything on, just my gut, and it says he is gone.

Cal's trying to out do himself and get six guys in the first round. He said as much himself after the championship game during the presser. I think if he knows these guys are going first round hes going to tell them to leave and hope someone late first round falls in love with Darius. If not, worst case scenario he gets 5 guys in and matches what has only been done by him. He said that the reason he said that night at the draft that it was the best moment in uk's history and people went crazy about it. He was like, I was just trying to say this is such a good thing because it led to this (championship). He said he knew by putting 5 guys in the first that it made kids want to go to school at Kentucky and thats how you get your Davis', Teagues, MKG, etc. He said guys are going to want to come here. Soooo I could easily see Cal urging them. I mean Bledsoe went like 18th and he still gets minutes on a team full of guards. Teague isn't going to be a starter in the NBA right now anyway. Going to a playoff team or late lottery would give him a chance to develop because skill and potential are there.

Then again all that was from post game presser so he may have said a lot of that on emotion. He may have enough time to figure out how much better Teague could make the team next season and how much he could use him. BUT, I still say he lets him go if hes ready. I think turning out another first round one and done pg and keeping the lineage going, then do it again with Harrow next season.

I do know one thing, going to get interesting by the 29th.

I'm sorry but I just don't see it happening. Wish I could say otherwise, though.

I feel the same.

Probable first round pick (likely) means he's gone. And he should be. Another year, and his status isn't going to move.

I disagree. I don't think he's coming back but I definitely believe of the top 6 players on the team he would be the one to move up in next years draft. He improved during the season and would probably go late 1st round but I think he would move up considerably with another year.

Agreed.
