What's the difference money wise in being a lottery pick, and just being a 1st round pick?

I wouldn't be so sure if I were everyone that Teague won't end up late lottery...

That would be a big move upward from where most have him slotted. I guess you are saying he will make an impression in the pre-draft camps/tryouts?

The difference between pick #10 and pick #20 is about $2.5 M over three years. The difference between #15 and #30 is about $2M over three years. If you fall to round 2, your contract isn't even guaranteed. In other words, you could get cut before even playing a single game. I have seen mock drafts where Teague goes in round 2.

Na, just looking at the current makeup of the draft. Very thin at PG, and with Teague being a top 2-3 PG in the draft, I expect a team or two in need of PG to maybe value him higher than most would expect.

That would be enough for me to come back one more year if I were Teague.

He is going to be a 1st round pick. :thumb:

Exactly how does a team give you a guarantee before the draft? Is there a verbal or written contract with the team before the draft?

^They tell a kid that if he's still available at their pick, they're taking him.

Either way, he's an obvious 1st round pick, he'd be dumb to not go.

So there's really no contract. A team could back out of that committment, and the player is just screwed over?

So much for this thread...

@AdamZagoria: "Anthony Davis, Terrence Jones & Marquis Teague all coming out, source confirms to @SNY.tv. Would expect MKG & Lamb, too."

So there's really no contract. A team could back out of that committment, and the player is just screwed over?

Correct it is a verbal "agreement" and nothing more.

Correct. Players hear that all the time. But the excuse from the drafting team will be, "We were going to take you but we did not realize player X would be available at that time."

No idea how legit this guy/account is, but:

CC - UK Recruiting ‏ @WildcatRecruits

Cal advising Lamb to return as he'll be leader on next years team, get more PG time, & draft is softer next year. Family still to decide.

As for MKG, he's basically looking for an excuse to return, but Cal likely advising him to put name in the draft. Family still deciding.
