In the OHIO Enquirer this morning, the front page was news about SORTA asking for almost $500,000 more due to low ridership based off of 2014 projections. Due big cities everywhere operate as idiotic as Cincy? Cincy treats money about as responsibly as a young 20 something that has moved out of mom and dads for the first time. Probably worse.

 

Atlanta. Many infrastructure issues need addressing. Instead, a black hole of taxpayer dollars used on flash projects like stadiums, arenas, Underground Atlanta, and its own streetcar boondoggle.

I know people who have gone downtown to ride the street car when it was new, for fun, and to see what it is like. I don't know anyone who uses it for everyday life. Never been on it myself.

 

Makes me sad that 100 years ago, Cincinnati was working on a subway system that was abandoned during the Great Depression. It is a shame that was never completed.

 

I wonder how much money you throw at something before you realize it is a failure? Or, if they keep pushing it forward, will it eventually become functional and make a profit?

System is down again. This time problems with the brakes and air compressors. Never planned on temps like this for this city? I Did not realize this was a pilot program for the manufacturer. Can’t believe heads have not rolled over the debacle.

Street Car is a hilarious thing to behold. Especially if you live on the Ky side of the river. There is always an issue, and like has been said over and over again, you can walk places faster than taking the electric bus. Living in the area I can see how this idea passed city council, I just cant believe someone thought this was fiscally reasonable. It is literally no difference than a city bus. It has to use the city streets same as the bus, it makes stops at stations or stops like a city bus. It needs maintenance like a city bus. Few things different are the bus didn't cost the city to add high power lines to run on or cost the city to dig up the streets to lay down tracks to run or or have its mobilty restricted by said lines. What a Blunda!!!

What a giant waste of money. I would imagine there were 2-3 million better things that money could've been used for that would actually benefit the city.

 

I'm rarely downtown, but when I have gone recently, I've never seen the street cars running.

If memory serves me correctly, Cranley was big-time against it when running for mayor. But then when he got in, it was something along the lines of "well, we've already invested $6 million dollars (or whatever the figure was at the time) in it, we need to keep going".

They cant, they would owe the Feds millions of dollars in grant money funding they took to build it.

Don't care what anyone else says about it, I've enjoyed it and will continue to use it when we're downtown. Convenient, cheap, and much easier than trying to walk all over the city.
