If memory serves me correctly, that Maysville St. Pat team with Jordan Owens is who last beat Mason in the district. Say what you want, but that kid was really good.

You are correct. March 3, 2000. St Pat beat Mason 88-76 in the district finals. Fleming, Augusta ,and Deming were in the district at that time. St Pat went on to lose 61-60 in the region semis to Brossart. That St Pat team won the Class A region that year and was 20-9.

Fleming had some strong teams back in the late 90's as well.

I'm still thinking Madison central may hold a record. I am not pro or con central just familiar with their streak. Does anyone know of a boys team that has won that many districts in a row at any point regardless of of how strong or weak the district is or was?

I believe St. X. in boys swimming has a pretty long streak of state championships.

 

This year made it 24 in a row. I believe this is the longest state championship streak in the country.

Sorry it wasn't useful enough info for you. I was throwing a team out there that had a lot of District titles in a row. No one else seemed to have a problem with it. I'll credit the fact that you got offended by it to the fact that you've only been on here for 3 months. :ohbrother:

Thanks for the info. Didn't know this. Know more about the ones in my area. Some districts are just like that while others seem to be alot more difficult.

 

Henderson County is the largest school in the second region. They are in a district with Webster County, which broke their streak this year, and Union County. In football classes Union and Webster are 3A and 2A, I think. The only 3 team district in our region. I am sure it will change just as soon as the new school in Paducah opens. That will close two schools which will cause a couple from the second region to go west and then the 3 team district should be taken care of.

The last time Mason Co didn't win the district, did it contain the same teams who are in it today?

 

I'm pretty sure Fleming County was in their district for a long time before being moved to the 16th Region. And Fleming County went to Rupp a couple times in the late '90s.

St. Patrick, Fleming County and Mason County all had some pretty good teams and quality games in the mid to late 90s.

 

Fleming County made the State Final 4 in 1998 and made a return trip to Rupp in 1999.

 

I believe it was the team from 1996 or 1997 that gave St. Patrick it's first win over Mason County ever, which culminated in what I believe is St. Patrick's last victory over Mason County in the 2000 district title.

 

As mentioned, St. Patrick went 20-9 and lost in the regional semis that year to Brossart, 61-60, the night before Brossart defeated Mason County on a buzzer beater by Justin Seiter at The Fieldhouse.

 

For a couple of years, those three teams were as good as anyone in the region. Since Fleming left and St. Patrick's talent level has dropped off, along with some guys named Lofton, Grutza, Setty(s), and Miller, the District has been undeniably weaker than it has probably ever been.

How is that possible? Had Mason won the game you refer to, it would have been two teams from the same district playing in the region SFs.

I think he is saying Brossart beat Mason in finals after beating St Pat in semis
