Warren Central 68 Owensboro 59

Recommended Posts

Central more or less controlled the game in three of the four quarters, but Owensboro made serious strides in the third. First, second, and fourth quarters, Central won those by 17 points. They led by as many as 14 in the second half and between 10-13 most of the second half. But Owensboro made a 15-2 run keyed by high percentage shots from Wimsatt (who led all scorers with 26) and Dragon turnovers and misses to climb back into the game. Central responded to ties on two separate occassions, the last of which at the start of the fourth (at 47 all) was a 7-0 run to seize control. It was never closer than five afterwards.

Both teams played with an extremely high pace, sometimes to a fault, especially in the first quarter as each just kept losing the ball. Owensboro found their only success by going inside to Wimsatt - they were 0/5 from the perimeter. Central for their part dropped the roof on them from three, going 13/30. Tay Smith hit seven threes to lead the Dragons, and has been a revelation so far. Once Brents is back, this is going to be a team that can and will bury you from outside. Or rather even more than now. I've never seen a 39 point advantage from three.
