11th Region Week 10 Review

Recommended Posts

A big matchup between the top 2 teams in the region headlined the past week in the 11th Region. Some other top tier teams made statements and District tournament seeds are starting to round into form. At this point its starting to seem like everyone is playing for 2nd Place. Lets get into it!

TEAM RANKINGS

1. Scott County (25-1) - The Cardinals continue to roll through not only the 11th Region but the entire state of Kentucky. Facing possibly their toughest in state test in a month the Cardinals did not disappoint as they handled Henry Clay by 21 points. The game was really never in doubt after the 1st quarter thanks largely in part to Glenn Covington pouring in 33 points including 26 in the first half. The next day Scott County traveled to Lafayette to face off with a top 8th Region team in Walton Verona and easily disposed of them by a score of 74-46. With the return of Michael Moreno looming the only question is, can anyone stop the Cards? This week Scott County hosts Woodford County and Clay County.

2. Henry Clay (20-5) - The Blue Devils remain at #2 despite picking up their first loss in over a month. Early in the week Henry Clay outlasted a tough Madison Central team in overtime before falling at Scott County to end the week. The three headed monster of Hawkins, Brown, and Warrick continue to lead the Blue Devils who in any other year would be a heavy favorite in this region. Up next for Henry Clay they host Paul Laurence Dunbar and travel to Woodford County.

3. Frankfort (19-5) - The Panthers got back to their winning ways this past week picking up 3 wins over Shelby County, Highlands, and Paul Laurence Dunbar. Hats off to the Panthers on really bumping up their schedule this season and its paying off. This week is packed full of tests as they host 3 games against Danville, Fern Creek, and Ballard. These games will really show where Frankfort is as the postseason is fastly approaching.

4. Woodford County (17-7) - The Yellowjackets finished the week 1-1 with a win over Shelby County and a head scratching loss to Anderson County at home. Luckily for the Jackets they have locked up the 1 seed in the 41st District. This week Woodford heads to West Jessamine and Scott County in a rematch of the Toyota Classic Championship game where the Jackets fell by 1.

5. Lafayette (16-9) - The Generals have quietly thrust themselves back into the conversation as a Region title contender. This week was HUGE for Lafayette picking up 2 wins over Lexington Catholic and Lexington Christian and clinching the 1 seed in the always tough 43rd District. Up next for the Generals are trips to Bryan Station and Trinity. The Generals always pack a tough schedule year after year.

6. Lexington Christian Academy (18-8) - The Eagles dropped their only game this past week at Lafayette and now are in need of some wins this week to avoid the 4/5 game in the 43rd District tournament. If they can win either of their games this week against Tates Creek or away against Lexington Catholic they will clinch the 3 seed. If they were to lose both of those games the Eagles and PLD would be tied for 3rd and a coin toss would be required.

7. Lexington Catholic (12-13) - The Knights had a chance to lock up at least a tie for the 1 seed in the 43rd District this past week but fell in a low scoring close contest to Lafayette early in the week and then took one on the chin at Trinity to end the week. This week Lexington Catholic will travel to Madison Central and host Lexington Christian in a game with big time district seeding implications.

8. Madison Central (12-12) - The Indians finished the week 1-2 with a win over Harrison County, an overtime loss to Henry Clay and a loss on the road at Ballard. Another 11th Region team not afraid to face anyone, the Indians schedule gets no easier this week as they host Lexington Catholic and then travel to Walton Verona in a matchup of the states top two big men in Isaiah Cozart and Deionte Miles.

9. Paul Laurence Dunbar (10-14) - The Bulldogs finished the week 2-1 with wins over Paris, a blowout of Tates Creek, and a 4 point loss to a good Frankfort team. Dunbar continues to improve from a rough patch earl in the season and nobody in the 43rd District wants to see them in their own gym where the district is being held this season. Up next PLD travels to Frederick Douglass and Henry Clay in some tough city matchups.

10. Tates Creek (11-11) - The Commodores were able to snap a long losing streak early in the week by beating Sayre but then got thumped at PLD. A team that maybe peaked early in the year, Tates Creek has taken several steps backward in the last month. This week the Commodores travel to LCA, host Bryan Station, and then end the week at Frederick Douglass.

11. Madison Southern (15-11) - The Eagles went 2-1 this past week with wins over Somerset and East Jessamine and a close loss to Clinton County. Only one game on the schedule for Madison Southern this week as they host a top 10th region team in GRC on Tuesday night.

12. Frederick Douglass (10-15) - The Broncos slide continues as this past week they dropped a game to Bryan Station but did salvage a win over Sayre. Frederick Douglass has now lost 7 of their last 8 games. This week the Broncos host PLD, Tates Creek, and travel north to Newport Central Catholic.

13. Franklin County (11-12) - A tough week for the Flyers as they dropped both of their games this week to Marion County and Conner. Franklin County has locked up the 3 seed in the 41st District and will play Frankfort. This week they host Danville and Frankfort Christian before heading to North Oldham to end the week.

14. Bryan Station (5-17) - The Defenders continue to improve and are leaps and bounds ahead of where they were at the beginning of the season. This past week they went 1-1 with a win over Frederick Douglass and a loss to Knox Central on the road. This week Bryan Station hosts Lafayette then heads to Tates Creek and Boyle County.

15. Model (15-10) - What a great week for the Patriots finishing 4-0! Model picked up wins over Western Hills, Rockcastle County, Whitefield Academy, and Owen County. This week Model will Powell County and Frankfort Christian, two more winnable games for the Patriots.

16. Western Hills (8-15) - The Wolverines finished 1-3 this past week with a win over Estill County and losses to Model, West Jessamine, and Southwestern. This week Western Hills hosts East Jessamine then heads to Nicholas County and Knott County Central.

17. Berea (14-10) - The Pirates picked up 2 wins this week over Nicholas County and St. Patrick and then dropped a game to Robertson County to end the week. This week Berea faces Frankfort Christian, St. Patrick, and Estill County.

18. Sayre (6-18) - The Spartans finished the week 1-2 with a loss to Frederick Douglass and Tates Creek and a win over Nicholas County. Next up the Spartans head to Atherton then host Wolfe County and Bell County.
