Class 1A

As folks began wondering if the gap was closing on Beechwood at the top of Class 1A, the Tigers decided to make a statement by knocking off a ranked 6A Simon Kenton in a big signature victory. Another team making their presence known was Raceland, specifically the Raceland defense, which won a meat grinder game against Somerset. Pikeville also got a huge win by outlasting Hazard. The Bulldogs must regroup against a Phelps team desperate to shock the state. Two huge games also stand out at the back of the Top 10. Holy Cross and Lynn Camp each have monster district clashes that they can not lose if they want earn a top seed.

DeSales got everything they could handle and then some, but the Colts beat yet another 6A foe in North Hardin. The Colts now play one of the top games in all of Kentucky when they re-new their rivalry with Christian Academy of Louisville. The Centurions also beat a 6A team in Meade County, but that game was never really in doubt. Somerset will have to rebound after losing to a second Class 1A team. The Jumpers travel to Danville in what is essentially a "must win" game for both teams. The Admirals also enter off a loss. They could not take down 6A Tates Creek.

Only two teams remain undefeated in Class 3A. Boyle County did not have to take the field, but have already paid their dues to back up their flawless record with a solid schedule. Bell County faced their first real challenge of the season against former undefeated Casey County. The Bobcats passed with flying colors and now count down the days until a huge clash with Corbin down the road. Waggener is a team trying to flirt with the Top 10. After defeating Bardstown they will now square up against powerhouse Central and look for a statement upset. Western Hills knows what Waggener is feeling. They re-join the Top 10 after a hiatus and now the Wolverines look to shake things up if they can knock off Lexington Catholic. Another game to keep an eye on is Belfry vs. Cabell Midland.

Class 4A

Franklin-Simpson continues to show no signs of a dramatic fall-off after once again taking care of business against a solid Allen County-Scottsville team. Staying out west, Hopkinsville lost their 5th game and allowed Madisonville to take their spot in the rankings. The Tigers now face a critical game in both standing and psyche as they look to give Logan County their first loss. Moving across the I-75 barrier, Johnson Central will look to stay at the top of the class when they take on a Greenup County team looking to earn respect. The premier contest in Class 4A will come from District 6 this week. The winner of Wayne County and Knox Central will likely determine the district champion.

Class 5A

District play seems to be the calm before the storm in Class 5A. With the exception of Christian County losing to Owensboro, it was a pretty quiet week in Class 5A's Top 10. Things do pick up a little, but by and large the marquee battles that will define the class still remain in the weeks to come. Lincoln County did secure a nice win over South Laurel as they continue to play very well. The Patriots will look to break Pulaski County's heart. Bullitt Central is also a very quiet 5-1 and can make a statement of their own against Oldham County. The story line of the week will undoubtedly be inter-state games. Covington Catholic will get perhaps their toughest game to date against an excellent Bishop Chatard (IN) team. South Warren will also put their undefeated record on the line hosting a 6-1 Ravenswood (TN) team.

Class 6A

Trinity is guaranteed to finish the regular season with a losing record after St. Xavier handed the Shamrocks a loss in their huge rivalry tilt. The Tigers now finally have forward momentum and will look to keep the wheels turning against an angry Manual squad. The Crimsons lost a heart breaker to Butler and will need to defeat the Tigers to stay in the thick of the 6A race. The game everyone is talking about was Henry Clay’s shock and awe performance against Scott County. The Cardinals now must turn around and try to hand Frederick Douglass their first loss of the season in a task that now seems easier said than done. Simon Kenton fell from the ranks of the undefeated against 1A Beechwood, but still held on to the Top 10 by their fingernails.
