Quarterbacks

 

Beau Buchanan, Bowling Green (3-0, ranked #2 in 5A)

 

Week 2: 18 of 43 for 233 yards with a TD and an int. in a 24-21 win over Bowling Green

 

Season to date: 62 of 109 for 780 yards with 3 TDs and 2 int.

 

Stock:

 

St. X is obviously no slouch, but that completion percentage (42%) was horrendous. Especially for a QB that completed 64% of his throws last year. It wasn't all his fault, though. His receivers didn't do him any favors with multiple dropped TD passes.

Joey Cambron, Daviess County (1-2, unranked in 6A)

 

Week 2: 30 of 41 for 324 yards with 2 TDs and 2 ints. in a 20-18 win over John Hardin

 

Season to date: 64 of 110 for 712 with 8 TDs and 7 ints.

 

Stock:

 

Cambron bounced back a bit from the worst game of his career. The completion percentage and yards were what we've come to expect from him. Still though, two more interceptions. He threw 11 last year in 12 games. He's already got 7 through just three games this year.

 

Gavin Spurrier, South Warren (3-0, ranked #3 in 5A)

 

Week 2: 9 of 15 for 163 yards and 3 TDs in a 36-14 win over Franklin Simpson

 

Season to date: 30 of 41 for 471 yards and 7 TDs with 0 ints.

 

Stock: UP

 

Once again, the numbers won't blow you away. But Spurrier’s efficiency and ability to get the ball to his playmakers continues to impress. The young man just knows how to win.

Braxton Ratliff, Ashland (3-0, ranked #3 in 4A)

 

Week 2: 9 of 16 for 191 yards and 2 TDs ; 162 yards rushing and 2 TDs in a 50-28 win over George Washington (WV)

 

Season to date: 28 of 46 for 683 yards and 8 TDs with 2 ints. ; 21 rushes for 215 yards and 2 TDs

 

Stock: UP

 

In a game that featured 1,091 yards of combined offense, Ratliff more than held his own against George Washington QB (and Marshall commit) Grant Wells. Ashland's renewed commitment to the running game paved the way for Ratliff's legs to shine for the first time this year.

Jaden Stinson, Mayfield (3-0, ranked #2 in 2A)

 

Week 2: 19 of 27 for 324 yards and 2 TDs in a 51-27 win over Paducah Tilghman

 

Season to date: 36 of 60 for 674 yards and 7 TDs with 0 ints.

 

Stock: UP

 

Stinson showed up big time when his team needed him against a game Paducah Tilghman squad. He shredded PT's secondary for a couple of TDs in a wild 1st quarter that featured eight touchdowns

Chase Estep, Corbin (3-0, ranked #3 in 3A)

 

Week 2: 347 yards passing and 4 TDs ; 48 yards rushing and a TD

 

Season to date: 763 yards passing with 9 TDs and 1 int. ; 246 yards rushing and 3 TDs

 

Stock: UP

 

Estep continues to make playing quarterback look easy. He fell just shy of his second straight game with 400+ yards of total offense. His level of play so far begs the question, “Is he actually an upgrade over Cameron Sizemore?”.

 

Cameron Jones, Frederick Douglass (3-0, ranked #5 in 6A)

 

Week 2: 14 of 18 for 283 yards and 3 TDs in a 57-7 win over Paintsville

 

Season to date: 43 of 83 for 811 yards and 12 TDs

 

Stock : UP

 

Jones came to Frederick Douglass from Knott County Central in a much talked about move back in January. He brought with him a great deal of potential in a 6’8”, 250 lb frame. His 81% completion percentage and zero interceptions are especially impressive when you consider the step up in opposition he's experienced at FD relative to what he'd faced prior to this year.

Running Backs

 

Wandale Robinson, Western Hills (1-1, unranked in 3A)

 

Week 2: The Wolverines had a bye. The Wandale Show resumes this Friday.

 

Casey McGinness, Covington Catholic (3-0, ranked #1 in 5A)

 

Week 2: 9 rushes for 176 yards and 2 TDs ; 2 catches for 47 yards and a TD in a 54-7 win over Cooper

 

Season to date: 38 carries for 430 yards and 7 TDs ; 4 catches for 76 yards and a TD

 

Stock: UP

 

Again, CovCath put their opponent away early. Again, McGinness’ touches were limited. Again, he made the most of those touches - 11 touches, 223 yards from scrimmage, 3 touchdowns.

Tre’ Bass, Franklin Simpson (2-1, ranked #2 in 4A)

 

Week 2: 9 rushes for 49 yards and a TD in a 36-14 loss to South Warren

 

Season to date: 30 carries for 322 yards and 6 TDs

 

Stock: DOWN

 

Franklin Simpson's potent running game could do little more than run head first into the brick wall that is South Warren's defense. Bass only found some running room after the game was out of reach and SW started subbing.

 

Aidan Robbins, Manual (1-1, ranked #8 in 6A)

 

Week 2: The Crimsons had a bye.

 

Jayden Neace, Perry County Central (3-0, unranked in 5A)

 

Week 2: 19 rushes for 267 yards and 2 TDs in a 34-12 win over Knott County Central

 

Season to date: 67 carries for 870 yards and 14 TDs

 

Stock:

 

Neace's Week 2 numbers seem downright pedestrian compared to the monster game he had a week earlier. PCC's light schedule this year could rob him of the opportunity to test his abilities against an elite opponent until the playoffs. That, in turn, could stagnate his stock.

Kent Trey Matthews, Mayfield (3-0, ranked #2 in 2A)

 

Week 2: 32 carries for 256 yards and 4 TDs in a 41-27 win over Paducah Tilghman

 

Season to date: 66 rushes for 574 yards and 8 TDs

 

Stock: UP

 

Matthews emerged as Mayfield's most potent weapon out of the backfield on the way to his team's state runner-up finish last year. His 157 yard performance against CAL in last year's semi-finals was a glimpse of things to come this season. He's played a pivotal role in each of Mayfield's wins so far, all against ranked opponents.

Anthony Adkins, Larue County (2-1, unranked in 3A)

 

Week 2: 13 carries for 143 yards and 3 TDs ; kickoff return TD in a 55-21 win over Thomas Nelson

 

Season to date: 33 rushes for 420 yards and 6 TDs ; 2 catches for 51 yards and a TD ; 1 kickoff return TD

 

Stock:

 

Adkins rebounded from an off game, rushing wise, against Russell County. He helped spearhead a running game that churned out over 400 yards on the ground versus the Generals.

Landan Swartz, Bath County (2-0, unranked in 3A)

 

Week 2: 26 rushes for 248 yards and 4 TDs ; 11 tackles in a 40-13 win over Powell County

 

Season to date: 67 rushes for 452 yards and 7 TDs

 

Stock: UP

 

In a match-up of two of the top running backs in 3A, Swartz out dueled Powell's Nathan Skidmore. He'll have an opportunity to go blow for blow with the top running back in all of Kentucky when Bath County hosts Western Hills this week. Wandale (354 yards from scrimmage and 6 TDs) ran circles around the Wildcats last year, while Swartz made a more than respectable showing with 138 yards and a TD.

Wide Receivers

 

Demontae Crumes, Butler (2-1, ranked #6 in 6A)

 

Week 2: 1 catch for 41 yards and a TD

 

Season to date: 8 catches for 282 yards and 3 TDs

 

Stock:

 

A week after doing serious work against DeSales, Crumes had a short night versus a struggling Western team. He only caught a single pass. And of course, wouldn't you know it? It went for a long TD. Because that's pretty much all this kid does.

 

Marquel Tinsley, Daviess County (1-2, unranked in 6A)

 

Week 2: 11 catches for 164 yards and 2 TDs in a 20-18 win over John Hardin

 

Season to date: 20 catches for 330 yards and 4 TDs

 

Stock: UP

 

Tinsley fell from the watchlist after not recording a single catch in an injury shortened game versus Evansville Central. Cambron's favorite target makes his return to the list following a dominating performance against John Hardin.

 

 

 

 

Linemen

 

Bryan Hudson, Scott County (3-0, ranked #3 in 6A)

 

Week 2: The Cardinals rushed for 226 yards and 4 TDs in a 28-7 win over Highlands

 

Stock: UP

 

Here's what you need to know - Hudson anchored an offensive line that rolled up 226 yards in just a half of football ; He also anchored a defensive line that allowed a paltry 5 yards rushing.

Jacob Lacey, South Warren (3-0, ranked #3 in 5A)

 

Week 2: 5 tackles ; 2 sacks ; a forced fumble in a 36-14 win over Franklin Simpson

 

Stock: UP

 

Lacey missed Week 1’s win over Warren Central, but returned as a menacing presence versus the Wildcats. South Warren's front seven, of which Lacy is the foundation, held one of the state's top rushing teams to 50 yards on the ground.

Athletes

 

Milton Wright, Christian Academy of Louisville (3-0, ranked #3 in 2A)

 

Week 2: 2 catches for 24 yards and a TD ; 5 rushes for 47 yards and a TD ; 2 tackles (1 TFL) in a 49-21 win over Central Hardin

 

Season to date: 8 catches for 139 yards and 3 TDs ; 69 yards rushing and a TD ; 17 tackles ; kick return TD

 

Stock:

 

Wright got more involved in the Centurions’ run game versus the Bruins. The majority of his production, including both of his TDs, came in the 2nd half when CAL blew open a 14-14 game.

Logan Castleman, Beechwood (2-0, ranked #1 in 1A)

 

Week 2: 12 carries for 101 yards and 2 TDs in a 28-0 win over Somerset

 

Season to date: 28 carries for 271 yards and 4 TDs

 

Stock: UP

 

Castleman was Beechwood's workhorse, logging 12 of the Tigers’ 13 carries in a weather shortened, yet dominant, victory over Somerset.

 

Langston Jackson, Henry Clay (1-2, unranked in 6A)

 

Week 2: 14 rushes for 102 yards and 2 TDs ; 10 tackles (9 solo, 3 TFL) in a 33-21 loss to Johnson Central

 

Season to date: 7 catches for 185 yards and 2 TDs ; 21 carries for 141 yards and 2 TDs ; 13 tackles ; 1 pick-six

 

Stock:

 

After displaying his effectiveness as a receiver against Tates Creek, Jackson returned to his primary role from a year ago in the backfield. He also teamed with his brother Ramond to finish as the Blue Devils’ top two tacklers on defense.
