Class 1A

Beechwood didn't get a full four quarters in against Somerset, but what time they were on the field was impressive. The Tigers get one of their stiffest tests this week, heading down I-75 to play an excellent 3A Corbin squad. On a week where the majority of the Top 10 will be playing ranked foes, perhaps the most telling game will be the annual clash between Eastern Kentucky heavyweights, when Pikeville and Paintsville meet. Both Hazard and Raceland have been sharp in the early season, and both should be expected to have to play a full 48:00 this week against solid foes.

1. Beechwood at 3A #3 Corbin

2. Pikeville vs. #5 Paintsville

3. Raceland at 4A #8 Greenup County

4. Hazard at 2A #7 Somerset

5. Paintsville at #2 Pikeville

6. Campbellsville at 2A Green County

7. Crittenden County at 3A #8 Caldwell County

8. Paris at 4A Harrison County

9. Louisville Holy Cross at Bethlehem

10. Williamsburg vs. Frankfort

Class 2A

Christian Academy of Louisville looked excellent by cruising past a ranked 6A Central Hardin. If the Centurions can continue the momentum against 3A Elizabethtown it will be hard to ignore their resume when discussing the short list of teams who can win the 2A title. Owensboro Catholic silenced doubters with a huge upset of 5A Owensboro. This week they cross the bridge for a personal rivalry against former coach John Edge's new team in the Hoosier State. Mayfield got a tough test from Tilghman for a half before pulling away. They eye their second rivalry win in as many weeks against McCracken County.

1. DeSales -- OPEN

2. Mayfield at 6A McCracken County

3. Christian Academy of Louisville at 3A #7 Elizabethtown

4. Danville vs. 5A Pulaski County

5. Glasgow vs. 4A Allen County- Scottsville

6. Owensboro Catholic vs. South Spencer (IN)

7. Somerset vs. 1A #4 Hazard

8. Newport Central Catholic at 3A #4 Belfry

9. Lloyd vs. 4A Marion County

10. Walton-Verona at Covington Holy Cross

Class 3A

Though the season is only three weeks old we have our first notable common opponent. Class 2A Danville took on Corbin and Boyle County in successive weeks, and the results would suggest that 3A may be more of a dogfight than many expected. Both teams will continue to navigate tough non-district slates as Boyle travels to play 4A Wayne County and 1A's champion, Beechwood, comes calling on the Hounds. Belfry got off the mat for the first win and now look for a statement against 2A Newport Central Catholic. Central has looked very good. They have a chance to improve their ranking against a Ballard team that Boyle County had to fight to put away in the opener.

1. Boyle County at 4A #7 Wayne County

2. Central at 6A #10 Ballard

3. Corbin vs. 1A #1 Beechwood

4. Belfry vs. 2A #8 Newport Central Catholic

5. Lexington Catholic vs. 2A Lexington Christian

6. Casey County -- OPEN

7. Elizabethtown vs. 2A #3 Christian Academy of Louisville

8. Caldwell County vs. 1A #7 Crittenden County

9. Bell County -- OPEN

10. Paducah Tilghman vs. 5A Graves County

Class 4A

Franklin-Simpson was no match for a 5A South Warren with title aspirations. They will look to get back on track against a lesser heralded team from the same county. Johnson Central got back on track from their season opening loss by beating 6A Henry Clay. The Golden Eagles will look to avoid being swept by West Virginia. Wayne County's lopsided loss in Week 1 to 6A Frederick Douglass doesn't sting as much after the Stallions dominated Paintsville. Yet a shootout win over Warren East will have their staff hoping to find better form against 3A Boyle County. Greenup County has not been getting the respect they think they deserve, but they have a chance to climb the rankings if they can take down their rivals from Raceland.

1. Johnson Central vs. South Charleston (WV)

2. Franklin-Simpson at 5A Greenwood

3. Ashland vs. 3A Russell

4. Knox Central vs. 5A Harlan County

5. Hopkinsville vs. 5A Christian County

6. Logan County vs. 1A Russellville

7. Wayne County vs. 3A #1 Boyle County

8. Greenup County vs. 1A #3 Raceland

9. Madisonville-North Hopkins vs. 3A Union County

10. Franklin County -- OPEN

Class 5A

For those wondering if anyone was up to the task of challenging Covington Catholic in Class 5A, an impressive week from Bowling Green and South Warren may have helped raise some eyebrows. The Purples took down former coach Kevin Wallace's 6A St. Xavier Tigers and South Warren looked great by handling 4A champion Franklin-Simpson. Both will have ranked foes again this week hungry for redemption. Speaking of redemption, Southwestern lost some favor when they failed to dominate Dunbar, but the Warriors answered by taking care of business against a 6A Madison Central who was starting to sniff the Top 10.

1. Covington Catholic vs. Kings (OH)

2. Bowling Green at #8 Owensboro

3. South Warren vs. 6A #9 Central Hardin

4. South Oldham vs. 4A North Oldham

5. Southwestern at 6A Henry Clay

6. Highlands at 6A Ryle

7. Anderson County at 4A Valley

8. Owensboro vs. #2 Bowling Green

9. Apollo at 2A Butler County

10. Montgomery County at 6A George Rogers Clark

Class 6A

It is not often that you turn the calendar to September and Trinity and St. Xavier are winless, but that is exactly where we find ourselves after both lost heartbreakers in Week 2. With the Catholic boys searching for a win, Male now sits in prime position to take over the top of the Big 3, if they can hand Trinity one more "L" this week. Trinity's latest loss was to Moeller from Cincinnati. Scott County will also have their chance to make a statement as they turn around and will take a shot at the GCL powerhouse. Frederick Douglass is proving themselves to be the class of Lexington. The Stallions put a hurting on 1A Paintsville and will take on the most likely contender for 6A supremacy in Fayette County when they square off with Lafayette.

1. Trinity vs. #2 Male

2. Male at #1 Trinity

3. Scott County at Archbishop Moeller (OH)

4. St. Xavier vs. 5A Fairdale

5. Frederick Douglass vs. Lafayette

6. Butler at 5A Fern Creek

7. Simon Kenton at 5A Dixie Heights

8. Manual at 4A Western

9. Central Hardin at 5A #3 South Warren

10. Ballard vs. 3A #3 Central
