Class 1A

It was a statement weekend for Beechwood and Pikeville, as they hosted ranked competition from Class 2A. The Tigers wore down Lloyd and eventually extended their lead to a running clock, while Pikeville settled for the full frontal assault, exploding on Lexington Christian before the first half ended. Beechwood will now try to take down another 2A team with a slightly higher number by their name. Paintsville has rolled in their two games, but the competition has left a lot to be desired. They take a serious step up against an impressive Frederick Douglass team.

Class 2A

All three of 2A's top contenders carried their momentum through another week. Mayfield and Christian Academy of Louisville both ambushed their foes for convincing wins. DeSales went the dramatic route, but secured a victory over another Top 5 6A school by defeating Butler. Danville's win streak came to an end against Corbin. They now will try to avoid a losing streak against 3A's top team rival Boyle County. Danville is not the only team from their District going after a #1 team. Somerset travels to Beechwood as well.

Class 3A

Corbin made the biggest statement of the 3A top teams by taking care of 2A Champion Danville. The Redhounds will now look to defend their Southern Kentucky bragging rights against Pulaski County. Boyle County rocked Franklin County's world and will get their turn with Danville this week after Corbin warmed them up. Belfry could not finish off a comeback against a talented out of state foe and will try to break their 2018 maiden against Bryan Station. Paducah Tilghman returns to the Top 10 after a solid early season pair of performances, but they will be put to the test against powerhouse 2A Mayfield.

Class 4A

Johnson Central holds on to the top spot by the slightest of margins after dropping their season opener to a very talented Capital, WV team. Franklin-Simpson will have their chance to stake their claim this week, hosting an outstanding 5A South Warren squad. Ashland hopes to fare better against Mountain State competition when they go on the road against George Washington. The Tomcats survived a scare against 1A Raceland. Knox Central and Hopkinsville are both in desperate need of a win after getting beat thoroughly against quality teams the past week, but Knox Central will have to keep waiting during their open week. Wayne County knows all about this scenario. They showed resiliency by taking care of Pulaski County following a Week 1 shelling.

10. Franklin County vs. 5A Woodford County

Class 5A

It's going to be moving day after this upcoming Friday's slate of games in 5A. Three of the Top 5 teams may very well face their toughest test of the early season as Bowling Green, South Warren, and Highlands will all be challenged by teams capable of beating them. Southwestern was trending up until a pretty lackluster win against Dunbar. The Warriors will try to regain their momentum against a quality 6A Madison Central. Owensboro is represented by two teams in the Top 10, and both teams secured solid victories against competition from Evansville last week. Owensboro and Apollo will take on some 2A foes this week as they try to keep their perfect seasons rolling.

1. Covington Catholic at 6A Cooper

2. Bowling Green at 6A #4 St. Xavier

3. South Warren at 4A #2 Franklin-Simpson

4. South Oldham -- OPEN

5. Highlands vs. 6A #3 Scott County

6. Southwestern vs. 6A Madison Central at Madison Southern

7. Owensboro at 2A #9 Owensboro Catholic

8. Anderson County at 4A Mercer County

9. Apollo vs. 2A McLean County

10. Montgomery County at 4A Harrison County

Class 6A

Entering Week 3, it is entirely possible that if Trinity and St. Xavier are not able to rally the troops we could be staring at an 0-5 record among the two 6A flagship programs. Trinity and St. Xavier will have stiff challenges to avoid this rarity with Moeller and Bowling Green waiting to do battle. Butler can attest that DeSales and Christian Academy of Louisville are 6A killers despite being from a much smaller class. Central Hardin will be the next in line to face one of these teams. Scott County and Male are well positioned to make a jump if Trinity falters, but Scott County will have no "cake" walk against the resurgent boys from Highlands. The Bluebirds have looked vastly improved this season.

1. Trinity at Archbishop Moeller (OH)

2. Male vs. 5A Doss

3. Scott County at 5A #5 Highlands

4. St Xavier vs. 5A #2 Bowling Green

5. Frederick Douglass vs. 1A #5 Paintsville

6. Butler at 4A Western

7. Simon Kenton vs. Conner

8. Manual -- OPEN

9. Central Hardin at 2A #3 Christian Academy of Louisville

10. Ballard at 4A Collins
