Our Eastern Kentucky Power Rankings are Sponsored by Lake Cumberland Sports

LakeCumberlandSports.com is an internet broadcast and media company out of Somerset, KY founded by four guys who love High School Sports and love broadcasting! When local radio decided to opt out of airing High School Sports; We decided to jump in. In 2016, we worked with an out of state company and did well. Starting in 2017, we decided to do this all by ourselves and we have been in Overdrive ever since.

We have been named the Official Broadcast Partners for both Southwestern and Pulaski County High Schools. We will be doing Football, Basketball (Boys and Girls), as well as Baseball, and Softball in the spring. We may even sneak in some other sports as well.

15. Harlan County Black Bears (5A, 3-4)- The Black Bears control their own destiny entering a huge District clash. The down side is a loss could put them on the track of a 4-seed.

14. Knox Central Panthers (4A, 5-2)- Knox fought hard but could not take down Wayne County. The Panthers will continue to position themselves for what they hope will be the Second seed.

13. Montgomery County Indians (5A, 5-2)- The Indians gave Madison Southern all they wanted but in the end, came up just short. They must rebound quickly as Anderson County will be another stiff test.

12. Raceland Rams (1A, 4-3)- The Rams got a much-deserved week off and now jump into District play. They hope their tough regular season schedule will allow them to make a deep push.

11. Pulaski County Maroons (5A, 3-4)- Pulaski got a bit more of a challenge from Lincoln County than they were accustomed to but found a way to survive. Pulaski should have an easier go this week with a huge clash looming next week.

10. Ashland Tomcats (4A, 6-2)- Ashland’s Offense has exploded in recent weeks and they seem poised to make some noise in Class 4A. Greenup County will be their last tune-up before a season ending clash with rival Johnson Central.

9. Hazard Bulldogs (1A, 5-1)- The Bulldogs put the finishing touches on a District Title by taking care of upstart Phelps. Up next is some major bragging rights for 1A Eastern supremacy in the regular season.

8. Rockcastle County (4A, 5-2)- The Rockets got a bounce back win to end a two-game losing streak. Clay County should now flip that to a 2-game winning streak.

7. Somerset Briarjumpers (2A, 5-3)- Somerset’s Second Half effort could not close the gap with Danville and now they are left in a “must Win” situation if they want a home playoff game.

6. Paintsville Tigers (1A. 6-1)- Paintsville wasn’t exactly in peak form but still got the District win over Fairview. This week they take a step back from District play but still have a premier 1A matchup.

5. Southwestern Warriors (5A, 5-2)- The Warriors Offense exploded against South Laurel and now only need to polish off an improved Lincoln County team before their big rivalry game.

4. Wayne County Cardinals (4A, 7-1)- The Cardinals locked up their District with a convincing win against Knox Central. Russell County should see them improve to 8-1.

3. Corbin Redhounds (3A, 6-1)- The Hounds wrapped up successive weeks against lesser competition and now re-new their rivalry with bell County. Dudley’s bunch isn’t ready for this challenge though, expect Corbin to roll.

2. Belfry Pirates (3A, 6-1)- Belfry makes it six in a row with a super impressive win against Cabell Midland, WV. The Pirates try to lock down a District Title against Lawrence County.

1. Johnson Central Golden Eagles (4A, 7-0)- Then there was one. Johnson Central distanced themselves from Greenup and became the only undefeated team left in EKY. Expect that unblemished mark to last at least one more week against Rowan County.

Player of the Week:

RB Nathan Skidmore, Powell County

Skidmore came up big in the Pirates’ win over Estill County carrying the ball 13 times for 264 yards and 3 TD’s

Co-Games of the Week:

#15 Harlan County Black Bears at Whitley County Colonels- In one of the most competitive District’s in the State, this is the pivot point. Win and you set yourself up to win the District Title and the #1 seed. Lose and put yourself in serious jeopardy of finishing 4th.

#9 Hazard Bulldogs at #6 Paintsville Tigers- You have to give 1A teams credit, they aren’t afraid to cross District lines and play teams they may very well see later in the playoffs. These two enter as the consensus favorites to reach the State Finals and this may very well be a preview of the State Semi’s.

I agree with you with no signature wins, but at the end of the day, theyre still 6-1. I get they may not be top 15 but you didnt mention them at all but mentioned a 2-4 Pikeville team for stock on the rise with both wins against winless teams.

Just a caveat.

Stock Rising doesn't mean they are on the verge of entering the Top 15... just means that they are improving their resume in recent weeks.

Lawrence County, for example, is nowhere near the Top 15 but they have went from a team that I thought might finish 4th in their District to a team who will most likely host a playoff game.

Pikeville was kind of thought to be on the outside looking in for the Class 1A race.. but after playing Hazard close and driving 6 hours and dominating a game I think they are not as far off the pace as we first thought.

If Lawrence and Perry Central played I would take PC by 14-20 points. If Pikeville and Perry Central played I would take the Commodores by 7-14 points.
