3rd Region Rankings (1/25/16)

Recommended Posts

The big snow cost the 3rd region some big games last week, but there was still SOME action of note....

1.Meade County(15-4 SAME) - The Waves suffered a setback this past week to another team with a great record, North Hardin. The combined records of the teams that have beaten Meade this season, is an impressive 61-15. No shame in those defeats. Meade has another tough one Tuesday in 15-3 Bullett East before returning home to host a big district contest vs Breck County.

2.Breck County(13-5 SAME) - Breck took an ugly loss on the road vs Apollo this week, but maintain their #2 spot over Daviess County. Breck defeated DC head to head and DC also suffered a loss at Apollo earlier this year. The margin is paper thin, but Breck holds the spot for another week. The Tigers travel to Grayson County, Meade County & Owensboro Catholic this week.

3.Daviess County(15-5 SAME) - The Panthers got a win road win over Warren East this week. Stewart Currie was a monster.....again. He went for 35/15 in the win. DC 's big district tilt with OHS has been rescheduled for this Thursday. First however, they will host Henderson County on Tuesday.

4.Owensboro Catholic(11-6 SAME) - The Aces picked a good week to have a break, with the snow. OC didnt play last week after coming off a heart breaking, controversial loss vs Mclean County in the All-A. They will play Cloverport on Monday and host Breck County on Saturday.

5.Owensboro(7-6 UP 1) - The Devils pulled themselves above 500 for the first time this season, with a win over Grayson County. The returning Ishawn Murphy has given the young Devils a lift with his play, scoring 20 plus vs Grayson. OHS hosts Madisonville on Tuesday before heading to DC on Thursday. They wrap up the week with a Saturday matinee at Mclean County.

6.Edmonson County(12-7 DOWN 1) - Edmonson had its 5 game winning streak snapped by red hot Mclean County in the semi finals of the All-A last week. The Wildcats saw their big district rematch with Trinity rescheduled due to snow. Right now, they are 1st in district seeding at 3-0. The Wildcats are at Warren East on Tuesday and host Grayson County on Friday.

7.Apollo(7-11 UP 1) - Apollo put together its best game of the season this past Tuesday night, a 67-48 win over Breck County. Apollo shot the lights out from beyond the arc, hitting 12 3 pointers. Apollo has 2 regional matchups this week at home, Tuesday vs Mclean and Friday vs Muhlenberg.

8.Mclean County(7-11 UP 5) - Mclean has reeled off 4 straight regional wins(Muhlenberg, Catholic, Edmonson and Trinity) enroute to the All-All regional championship. Dispite a slow start, Mclean has won almost every important game they have played this season. They are 1st place in the 10th district standings and have now won the All A regional title. They'll look to keep it going this week vs 9th district powers Apollo and Owensboro.

9.Trinity(11-9 UP 1) - Even with the loss against Mclean County in the All-A Championship game, the Raiders are trending upward. Big wins over regional opponents Grayson and Hancock have moved them up the rankings. They have a big district road game on Tuesday against Butler County before hosting Ohio County on Saturday.

10.Hancock County(9-9 DOWN 3) - The Hornets up and down season continues, as they dropped the semi final All-A matchup with Trinity on Tuesday. The Hornets have two games they should win this week vs Cloverport and an Indiana Community school.

11.Ohio County(9-11 DOWN 1) - Dispite two losses in a row, the Eagles are still headed in the right direction. Its hard to hold losses vs Daviess County and Barren County against this young team. They continue to get good production from their PG Conner Wilson and big men Travis Carter and Ross Tichenor. The Eagles postponed two games last week due to snow, one a district matchup vs Muhlenberg. They will make that one up on Thursday. Ohio plays Saturday at Trinity.

12.Muhlenberg County(6-11 DOWN 1) - The Mustangs are struggling to find wins, but you can see this is a young team that is growing. They have played one of the toughest schedules in all of the 3rd region. Its not going to get any easier this week, as they host Bowling Green on Tuesday and travel to Apollo on Friday.

13.Butler County(10-8 SAME) - The Bears split a pair of games early in the week with a win vs Cloverport and a loss at Hopkins Central. Butler sports a nice record but need more signature wins to move up the poll. They host Allen County & Trinity this week.

14.Grayson County(8-10 DOWN 2) - Grayson County has competed hard vs everyone in the region but have dropped 6 straight games, all to 3rd region opponents(Apollo, Edmonson, Catholic, Ohio, Trinity & OHS). The Cougars host Breck Tuesday before traveling to Edmonson on Friday.

15.Cloverport(3-13 SAME) - The Aces lost a pair of games this week to Butler and Fort Knox. They travel to Catholic and Hancock this week.
