Semi-pro football team out of Somerset begins inaugural season

SOMERSET, Ky (WYMT) - With the NFL, college and high school football seasons months away, look no further than the semi-professional football team right here in the coverage area for your football fix.

 

A nice size crowd gathered at the Laurel/London Optimist Club Saturday as the Kentucky Patriots kicked off their first season in the Kentucky Football League. The team, based out of Somerset, went through some tough times trying to get up and running.

 

"It just felt like everything started coming together. First go around was trying to get the field and then we got the field. So everything after that seemed to be falling into place. The team we've got right here is some of the best athletes I've ever been around and there's no reason we shouldn't win every game this year and the championship." Said Owner/Player Matt Sadler.

 

What makes this Patriots team unique to the area is the names on the roster, nearly all played high school football in south and eastern Kentucky, from the three schools in Pulaski County all the way east into Bell County.
