Kentucky is represented well on the list. Three of the top ten programs in the country is nothing to sneeze at. Albeit useless information, I noticed that a quarter of the teams had “Red” in their team name: Red Devils, Red Elephants, Red Hurricanes, 3 x Big Reds, 2 x Red Tornados, and the Red Rovers.

Is this because 5 of 6 State Championships were won by private schools in 2010?

I agree that five or four classes would be better from a competitive standpoint, but I don’t think placing St. X and Trinity in a class by themselves does anything except punish them for being good. Should Highlands also be punished? What about Boyle? I agree with BF, where does it stop?

Congrats to Boyle County. They are truly one of the powerhouse programs in Kentucky. A special congrats to ACS. Making it to State for the first time in school history is a very special accomplishment in itself.

Maybe adding one additional division would solve a lot of the problem. Since most or all of the 9-1 teams in recent memory sat in the 9th spot (1-8 make the playoffs) if they added another division it would take roughly 16 teams from each existing division or 4 teams from each region. That would probably be a good start IMO. A wildcat pool would only apply to teams that didn’t come in 1st or 2nd in their district. This of course would require a change in Ohio’s district/league structure. Many of the districts (leagues) have no real meaning when it comes to the playoffs because they have teams from multiple divisions in each league. If districts were actually structured to support the playoffs a team that went 9-1 or 8-2 with only one district loss would make the playoffs and then all the remaining teams in that division are considered for the remaining playoff slots based on record and strength of schedule.

So as a division 6 school I should have to play and beat division 3, 4, and 5 schools or I can’t make the division 6 playoffs? Waterford did not lose to any Ohio team in 2007. They can’t play teams in lower divisions because they are in the lowest division. Would they have beaten Newark Catholic who won the Division 6 Championship that year? Probably not, but nobody will ever know because their one loss to a WV team prevented them from making the playoffs. I completely agree with strength of schedule arguments to a point. Obviously you can’t have a Cincy Woodward playing 7 or 8 division 5/6 schools and going 8-2 to make the playoffs, but I completely disagree with the situation that occurred in division 6 in 2007 and to a lesser extent Caldwell this year. In the end, I think there is a better way to ensure teams that beat their opponents, which is all they can do, are rewarded for their on the field efforts and not punished because of what their opponents did in their other 9 games.

Maybe they should look at a combination of expanding their divisions, splitting private verse public, or setting up meaningful districts where the top two teams advance and the remaining are placed into a wildcard pool for playoff spots.

I suppose the BCS is perfect too? Yes teams are judged by their schedule, but also how the teams on your schedule do throughout the season. In the case of Caldwell, they play basically the same schedule they have for many years and have made the playoffs the last couple of years by going 8-2. This year however, they failed to make the playoffs at 9-1 in large part because their opponents did worse this year overall than the last couple of years. They cannot control how their opponents do except for one game out of ten. In the same area a team called Waterford, which is in Division 6 (equal to class A in KY) went 9-1 in 2007 and didn’t make the playoffs. Their only loss was the first game of the season to a team from WV who went 8-2. This would be like saying Fairview at 9-1 didn’t make the playoffs because they didn’t play and beat any decent 2A or above teams. To me that is hypocritical, especially for the smaller class teams. To say they have to play larger schools to make the playoffs in their “small” school division. Obviously with 700+ teams and the same number of playoff spots as KY, there is going to be a huge difference between the level of teams that make the Ohio playoffs verses the Kentucky Playoffs, but Ohio’s system is far from perfect. Actually I would take Kentucky’s “watered down” system any day than to watch 9-1 teams not make the playoffs.

I think OC wins in a close one. It should be an interesting game.

So Murray's schedule isn't weak compared to Danville, Corbin, NCC, and OC? I stick by my comment and say it is. Regardless, good luck against OC.

Certainly the lack of experience and depth has been a factor among many other things. I believe this year was a perfect storm. They lost a huge amount of starters and playmakers to graduation, two coaches left to pursue other opportunities, and the teams they played last year were all on the upswing this year while Fort Campbell was on the downswing. I do feel bad for these seniors, but regardless of what happened last night and early this season, they should hold their heads high because of their entire body of work over the last four years. There are very few seniors who graduate with 3 championships and a 47-10 record. On a bright note, the Falcons should return (depending on military moves) some key experience next year to include QB Hills and I believe will be on the upswing next year and a contender in 3A.

Murray lead at halftime14-7 with Fort Campbell having a TD called back and Hills playing very well. In the second half Murray completely took control 35-8. As has happened before this season, Fort Campbell comes out after halftime and is dominated. Murray is as advertised and played their game, tough defense and powerful running game. Congrats to Murray and take care of those Aces.
