Highlands is Climbing the National All Time Wins Lists at a Amazing Pace

Featured Replies

Being from Mayfield who is in the top 10 in all time wins nationally I was curious where my Cardinals stood today so I googled it and was pleased to see we are doing well at #8 with #773 wins but what caught my attention was Highlands. Highlands is now second nationally at 813 trailing only Valdosta GA. who has 862. Male is #3 with 808. That gives KY 3 of the top 10. Paducah Tilghman is #21, Danville #24 and Owensboro #37. I also saw a link from from 2006 and Highlands jumped from #5 in 2006 to #2 and did so by winning 58 games in that period and jumping over Male for the lead in Kentucky. No other team in the top 15 was even close to 58 wins. Mayfield was a distant #2 with 42 wins. Only 1 other team had 40 wins with most having in the high 20's to mid 30's. Male won 37 games since 2006, PT 27, Danville 32 and Owensboro 38. Valdosta won 33 games since 2006. If the trend continues Highlands could become the winningest team in the nation in a mere 10 years. Mayfield is likely to move up as they are 1 win behind Little Rock Central who has only won 8 games in the last 5 years and could pass McKinley-Canton who holds a 3 game lead on Mayfield. McKinley won 26 games over the last 5 years. PT droped from #17 in 2006 to #21 currently. Danville went from #20 to #24 and Owensboro went from #35 to #37. Highlands jump the last 5 years is staggering. Anyway, just had to much time on my hands and thought a few of you all might get a kick out of this.

It is very nice to see and great for the state, but let's not compare the quality of competition that highlands faces week in and week out against that of valdosta. It's a whole different animal down there. Especially when you take into account the county school, loundes, has been siphoning off their talent throughout the last decade.

I'll bet the GA. team doesn't play up two classes considering enrollment. They may have a tough schedule , but Highlands plays the Colerains , St. X's and Elders and sometimes Moeller of the GCL , which is one of the best in the country. Put Highlands in 3A where they belong and suddenly the Birds would be fighting for the top spot. How long has HHS been playing in 5A , as a 3A team ?

Should we also mention the talented players that play for NCC , that live in Ft. Thomas ?

I don't see the big deal about Highlands playing up two classes (or one this next season). Their district is not very tough and nobody in the playoffs gives them a game.

The numbers I have are a little different...

1. Valdosta, GA: 861 Wins

2. Fort Thomas Highlands, KY: 813 Wins

3. Louisville Male, KY: 811 Wins

4. Massillon Washington, OH: 802 Wins

5. Mount Carmel, PA: 789 Wins

6. Canton McKinley, OH: 776 Wins

7. Mayfield, KY: 775 Wins

8. Little Rock Central, AR: 773 Wins

9. Hampton, VA: 768 Wins (Tie)

9. Easton, PA: 768 Wins (Tie)

A big reason for Highlands' recent jump in this rankings list is their having the 12 forfeited wins from the 2004 season reinstated this past year. In the last four years, HHS has amassed 15 wins (2007), 14 wins (2008), 15 wins (2009) and 14 wins (2010), plus the 12 reinstated wins this past year. That's a whole lotta wins in a short period of time.

First reaction post to this was the proverbial great BUT the competition is weaker. Lol

The haters gonna hate forever.

Very impressive I don't care who you play.

I think everyone would agree that the level of play and competition in high school football varies from state to state. However, the list is what it is... the winningest prep football programs of all time. Does this list mean that Highlands is the second best prep football program is the nation? Of course not. However, the list does show that Highlands in the second winningest program in the nation. Take it for whatever it's worth. I, for one, think it's worth quite a bit since I like keeping track of records. Most of the HHS fans I know don't care very much about where HHS is ranked in the record books or stat sheets... they are focused on the product on the field. It's hard to argue with that mindset!

The list also shows that Kentucky is fortunate to have some of the winningest programs in the country!

And this diminishes Highlands, Male, Mayfield, PT, Danville, Owensboro's accomplishments how???

That explains alot, I hope your numbers are correct, if so Mayfield jumped a spot and is 1 win shy of jumping into a tie for #6. The site that popped up when I googled winningest hs football teams also had 2006 records and Highlands jump was 58 games so there was no reinstated games added atleast yet.

Kentucky is represented well on the list. Three of the top ten programs in the country is nothing to sneeze at.

Albeit useless information, I noticed that a quarter of the teams had “Red” in their team name: Red Devils, Red Elephants, Red Hurricanes, 3 x Big Reds, 2 x Red Tornados, and the Red Rovers.

Valdosta has been playing since 1913

Highlands -1915

Male -1893

Massillion- 1894

Mount Carmel- 1893

Canton Mckinley- 1894

Mayfield - 1919

With the next three classes\years, it`s very probable The Birds can have 40 plus wins!!!

So the question I ask you all is what is your opinions of will Highlands eventually catch Valdosta? If they do when will they likely do so?

The competition in KY takes NOTHING away from Highlands' win total; they do it the right way and work their tails off year-around to win football games; if the rest of the state (outside of Trinity and a few others) don't get their act together, Highlands will soon be boasting "The Winningest High School Football Program in the Nation" as another tool to attract kids that want to be a part of the best.
