  1. Serious question: Is this high school? If so, what league?
  2. Correction to the above post: Bullitt East, as of 5 minutes ago, was up 6-0 in the bottom of the 6th.
  3. My response was only half sarcastic. My apologies. As far as playing Semi-State in three days: There's always going to be a good chance that will never happen because of the weather we have here in late spring. Take for instance Semi-State 3 between E'town and Bullitt East. Game 1 was Monday night, no problem. Game 2 got pushed back to Thursday because of Wednesday's storms, and then eventually pushed to Friday because of Thursday's storms. And then you had to deal with graduation for both teams. E'town's graduation was Friday night, and Bullitt East's was this afternoon before Game 3. But, had they played Game 2 on Tuesday, we wouldn't be having this discussion. And besides, I think it's up to the tournament host to determine the schedule. If they want to have a day off between the first two games, that's up to them and not the KHSAA. May be wrong on that, I don't know. But I always thought it was up to the host sites to make the schedule.
  4. I don't know if I like the idea of getting rid of Semi-State. Maybe I'll come around to it at some point ...
  5. Here's another thing about the ejection: The coach was not ejected by the home plate ump.
  6. So, in other words, it comes down to the ump's judgment call?
  7. Per my boss: Third inning, Bullitt East up 4-0 on Elizabethtown. Both head and assistant coach for E'town have been ejected, again per my boss. He isn't sure if the assistant has been thrown out or what happened to get him ejected, but said head coach was tossed when he argued a BE kid should have been ejected for barreling over E'town's catcher at the plate.
  8. The catcher is up the line on that play. Had he been back a few feet and closer to the plate, then I could see an ejection coming. But not from that play.
  9. Chargers down 4-0 in bottom of the sixth. E'town starter Erin Pennington went five-plus and gave up two hits, before giving way to Chase Greenwell. The wheels fell off after Greenwell got the second batter of the inning out with a strikeout. After two walks, East's Zach McCarthy got the Chargers on the board with a single. Justin Jones then followed with a three-run homer to deep center field, a shot that traveled a guestimated 415 feet, to give BE a 5-4 lead. Josh Whitmer followed with a solo shot, a guestimated distance of 425 feet, to center for a 6-4 lead. BE's Matt Bowles had a two-run double to end the scoring for the Chargers. One heckuva game, probably the best I've seen in a long time. Game 3 is tomorrow night at 8.

  11. Home of the Lexington Legends, a Class A affiliate of the Houston Astros.
  12. Congrats to an awesome young man I had the privilege of covering a few years ago.
  13. Trust me, technique. I didn't like the outcome, either, and I'm supposed to be unbiased and all. And that was one of my last articles for the Frankfort paper.
  14. I was there for that game, too. One heckuva game, and I still can't believe Catholic came back after being down 32-7 at the half. That is tops on my list of games I have covered.
  15. For those who have Comcast, the game will be carried live. Should be channel 37 in the Elizabethtown area.
  16. They hire coaches as teachers first. Then, if they want the coaching job, they can apply for that. And they're "renewed" or let go (at least as coaches) at the end of each school year. At least, this is what I've been told by a former coach who I still keep in contact with on a somewhat regular basis.
  17. NHC should be playing a full 11-man schedule this season. At least that was the plan when the team was first started.
  18. If you're talking about who I think you're talking about ... Isn't the coach in question a former head football coach as well? Good luck, Coach Ledford, in whatever you do. Never got that much of a chance to work with you as you were hired after I left the Frankfort area, but I've heard nothing but good things about you from other people.
  19. E'town at home, a still improving Western Hills team on the road. I think I'll take E'town.
