I do think that North Oldham is much improved than when they played South Oldham earlier in the year. It was an easy win for South but they should not take them lightly. Bryant for North Oldham keeps improving and they have made some strides as of late.

It was a very good game last night and I was very impressed with the play of the freshman for South. They are all capable of scoring which gives them lots of options. Stop one and someone else steps up. A luxury that South has not had for a few years. Fultz was held scoreless in the 3rd quarter - she had 18 at halftime and had a big 4th quarter scoring all her points after Davenport fouled out. She(Fultz) may not have missed a three point shot the entire game. She is a very nice player. Davenport never seemed to get into the flow of the game and fought foul trouble all night. Makes the region conversation much more interesting to say the least. Nice win Lady Dragons!

Names are submitted by members of the Selection Committee as well as state representatives who religiously follow the prep scene in their areas. In addition, Sports America subscribes to every major basketball publication and is read very carefully by its staff to ensure that some deserving players are not overlooked. Many rising seniors make this list based on an excellent junior year or for having an outstanding summer participating in summer camps and AAU tournaments. First of all thank you paNDA for your detailed instructions on the selection process. It is quite and honor. With all that being said, deserving players are still missed. I believe that Jody Demling imay be someone who is one the state representatives for our area and I think there are some other names but I am not 100% sure. I was not aware that Blue Chip has anything to do with it. It is sad when a quality player that is deserving of at least being nominated (especially since there is not a limit for each state) is over looked but it comes down to someone's opinion. I have also heard that the high school coach can also nominate their player. There were several players left off last years nominations - Kelesha(?) Cook from Franklin Simpson and Lauren Jones from South Oldham High School are the two that I can remember off the top of my head but there were a few others. Both , Cook and Jones, made the KY All Star team and had stellar high school careers, and have D1 scholarships - just not sure how either on of them could have been missed. Unfortunately, it happens.

Does anyone know where any of the girls from SK will be playing college ball? Congrats on a great season, career and big win on senior night.

It would be nice to get some better officiating for district play this year. That will make a big difference - boys teams tend to draw the better officials and it is about time that the girls get them as well.

Carroll played very hard and came ready to play. South did not- they did not even wake up till late in the game and were lucky to get the win. Non-starters played better for the lady dragons. Carroll moved the ball well and Wallace, Curry, and Osborne all were impressive. Carroll is a much better team this year than last and they play well together. Coach Mefford does a great job!

Certain teams are very effective at using this and I will not name names but they are some of the top teams in the surrounding regions. Lots of hand checking and shoving back not just on the dribbler but on the offensive player working to get open. Physical shoving, forearm in gut the entire time.

I agree and I do think that it is being taught. It has been bad for awhile IMO- not just this year but it does seem that the refs are calling it more often - at least that is what I have seen so far. I think most of this inlcuding the question about the knee- it all due to frustration about not being able to guard the player so they result to these type of tactics. Not sure if it is more player or coach though- toss up!

This is a big rival game and I would say that Sacred Heart probably had a let-down after the big win against Manual. Beat a big time team and it seems the next game or so, don't do the things that you need to win the game. Big win for Assumption!

I agree with your point for the school team- each of those players are/were the critical players but IMO there is a difference in being the go to/key player on your high school team and being an excpetional talented/impact player. I guess it is like looking at someone who is the mvp on there team but it doesn't necessarily make them the best player or even the top 5 n the region. When I think of that type of player, I do think about what they can do at the next level- to me that can be what separates players and their abilities. Maybe impact just isn't the right word. All the players that we have mentioned in this thread are all great players for their respective teams and there is no doubt that there team would not have been as successful without them. There is just a difference in the school, the competition they play, and the ability to have that significance/contribution at a higher level.

I agree that none are complete players and rightly so since they are just freshman. Defense is tough for players at this age as they are transitioning from middle school.

Pretty ugly first half all around for both teams. South Oldham managed to do some things in the second half to pull away to get a badly needed win for the lady dragons. Hope they can turn things around and McGuffin returns soon. Youth seems to be the big story for the 8th this year and Trimble Co definitely has their share of that as well.

The floor could use a refinishing that is for sure along with the replacement of a few boards, there are some definite dead spots. I have seen the floor slick at times as well but that is just a matter of keeping it swept. Also, it is extremely cold in there. You know that when you see fans in the stands with blankets- no joke!

As always Colonel Mike, you pose a great question and here is my take on it. An impact player IMO is not necessarily the best player on the school team but an "excpetional" player that could go anywhere and be that type of player for most high school/aau teams. Maybe they don't score the points that they do/did but they definitely have the talent and you know it when you see it. With that being said, Hargett, Milam, Girdy, Beaudrie, and Marshall although they are key for their school, and are quality players, IMO, they are not impact players within the state. On the other hand, Gray and Jones are and yes, they proved that by making the Ky All Star Team. Tolliver has the potential to be an impact player for SK. With that being said, Caoch Zimmerman has had several impact players: Toni Slaughter- UL, Charlotte Marshall- WKU, Amanda Green- Went to Morehead but I don't know what happened after she hurt her knee, and Raechele Gray - Marshall. Don't forget, Antonita Slaughter- now a Jr. at CAL and has already committed to UL, played for her when she was in 8th grade and IMO, was the difference maker for them to win the region when Amanda Green was a senior. Yes that is a terrific list of players and most coaches would die for a player list like that so I can understand how one might think that she has had it easy as far as coaching goes. Maybe so. I just think that she does not get enough credit for the other players that are developed that may not go on to get the D1 scholaarship or even play ball in college that support those impact players. She runs a great program, expects a lot of her players, and earns their respect. A player who respects her coach, will run through the wall for her- that is also why they have had the level of success. The talent helps, don't get me wrong but I do believe it is more than that. That IMO is the missing piece of the puzzle for many teams out there.

Yes, they have had till this year for as long as I can remember, a NCAA D1 type player but I am not talking about those players like Green or Gray. I am referring to the supporting cast for those types of players. You can have a great player but it takes more than them to win the region IMO. Those support/roleplayers get better when they are coached by her- you see much improvement from year to year and within the season. To me that is a sign of a great coach- to take a mediocre or one dimensional player and make them better. LeCompte is not your typical high profile player but has turned into a nice player for them. If you look back at her history, she has improved consistently over time and gotten better. That doesn't happen by itself usually.

Yes indeed she is very good and very smart. She coaches the game to her the talent that she has and makes adjustments along they way. They are extremely well disciplined and she can take a mediocre player and make them efffective. One of the things that I have always admired the most about her is how she gets her players to play within themselves and accept their roles. This is why they are always a dangerous team during tournament time.

I cannot see North beating either Oldham or Trimble so Oldham will be the number one and South the number 2 - either way, they(Oldham & South) will meet again for the district championship. Should Trimble lose to North and they bacome the number 4 seed, it will be very interesting to see if they can pull the upset over Oldham. I can see that possibly happening especially since Trimble played them so close although they played Oldham at home which is an advantage for them for sure. Your comments are right on Colonel Mike!

Very well said and I agree with all points- tough loss for Spencer Co. - so close but yet so far!

Not sure I would use this game as your guide for the district title. Yes Oldham won but it was on their floor with crazy, questionable call to put time back on the clock. Should not have happened as the officials were pulling a number out of the air. Per the radio should have only been .2 seconds not 1.3 or 2.0 seconds - big differenece there. Anyway, a game like this does not give us any more indication come district time. Neither team was dominant or all that impressive IMO. If we follow history, the last two years, the regular season winner between these two has not become the district champ. South Oldham has got to learn to manage the end of the game better. Several bad shots along with some unforced key turnovers, cost them this one. Hats off to Oldham, they hit the big shots when they needed to and capitalized off South's miscues.
