  1. Article in the Courier Journal today: http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/200804230430/SPORTS05/804230957
  2. Since there are two Laurens... I am pretty sure you mean Lauren Wombles, but I do want to give an extra high five out to Lauren Jones as well. I think she may the first player from South Oldham to ever make the KY All Stars- another great accomplishment for her. :dancingpa
  3. I am so happy for these girls. What a great way to end your careers as high school players. Take it to Indiana!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Anyone heard how things went? Surprises, no shows, etc
  5. FYI- Anderson beat South Oldham by 1 point on a last second shot so it was by no means an easy win for them. Also note, South Oldham beat both Conner and Highlands who I think beat Simon Kenton as well. The top teams in both regions are comparable- Hargett is a quality player.
  6. The 8th region will be more open than ever next year. I agree with your top two but after that, it is a toss up. I would give the edge to Oldham County having a chance to do something although losing Melton will be a huge loss for them. Shelby doesn't have any players of Gray's caliber and it will be interesting to see how coach Zimmerman brings this group along. As for South Oldham, they lose too much -Jones carried them the last 4 years in so many ways other than just scoring points. It will be a tough year until their incoming freshman class gets their feet wet. They will be a contender down the road though. Spencer Co. has made huge strides and could be the sleeper team of the region next year.
  7. I think that is exactly the point IMO- none of the teams from the 8/9 or 10th regions have won state and are comparable in talent. There are stronger and weaker teams in each region. So with that being said, why are there so many players with the exception of Tolliver (8th) from the 9th region listed with a few exceptions with the honarble mentions? My take is that it is more of a "local NKY teams top players list" which is the 9th region primarily with a few 8/10 region teams that are within striking distance so they grabbed a few honorable mention votes. Where exactly do the boundries cut off when consdiering what is NKY or not....just curious!
  8. So let's update what we know so far: Lacy Cline - Mason Co.- possible Thomas Moore Kari Jo Harris - Hopkins Co Central Megan Isaacs- Hart Co.- Campbellsville Maggie Prewitt- Montgomery Co.- Abby Steele- Muhlenberg North - Lauren Wombles - South Laurel - Lenae Shouse - Breathitt - Coastal Carolina or ALC Megan Mosley - Knott Central- Sarah Rowe - Rockcastle Co. -
  9. I had heard that she was not going to play in college because of her bad ankles- she is a tremendous player but I do understand that she would want to be able to walk later in life.
  10. Lacy had great stats and can shoot the lights out from three point land. It is hard when you have another player like Chambers at the same school who puts up even more impressive numbers. Lacy was a HUGE key to all success' that Mason had. Chambers may get more credit in the papers but Lacy did so much for them. There are schools out there looking for quality players like her. Do you know of any schools looking at her? Offers?
  11. There are still several top players that have not signed: Lacy Cline - Mason Co. Kari Jo Harris - Hopkins Co Central Megan Isaccs- Hart Co. Maggie Prewitt- Montgomery Co. Abby Steele- Muhlenberg North Lauren Wombles - South Laurel Kayla Lowe was on my list but I heard at the OH-KY All Star Game that she is going to Murray State. Does anyone know anything about these players, schools interested etc, and have other top players to add?
  12. Katie did play in the KABC game along with Chambers, Lowe, Wombles Ward, Jones, and Gray- and they are all invited to the KY-IN all star tryouts. You are allowed to participate in two all star games PRIOR to graduation. Since the KY-IN games are June 13 & 15 (after graduation), they are ok to play in all three should they make it.
  13. Amber is playing for Spalding, and I am not sure about other 8th region players - possibly Emily Crutcher, but I do know there are several other players that have also committed to play there: Kelly Harrod - Bullitt East Krista Piece- North Bullitt Katie Hardy- North Bullitt Spalding is NCAA Div 3 and can offer financial aid or academic scholarships- they call them packages. They are not able to offer direct athletic money per NCAA rules but they find ways to provide the money(financial or academic) for players to be able to play in college. Charlie Just is a great coach and does an outstanding job . He and his staff have really put together a great recruiting class this year.
  14. FYI- per the NCAA, it is two all star events PRIOR to graduation. They can compete in all star events after graduation as well and that is not limited- so they can do both the KABC and the OH-KY game and also do the KY-IN game since it is held after graduation.
  15. Votes were not due until after the state tournament so I do think that her performance in the sweet 16 did help her. A great example of that was Jody Demling with the Courier Journal. He had picked Monique Reed in one of his blogs and in that he had rated Tia # 3 behind Reed and Novosel. After state, he changed his mind and said that Tia hands down was the best. She is very deserving and has played well all year but I think that everyone was talking about Reed and Novosel from the get go and she was overlooked most of the year.
  16. Award was presented this afternoon to at Butler. Great for her! No info on voting as it is not released by the KY Eye Foundation.
  17. Announcement was today at 1:45 pm - anyone heard anything out there?
  18. I think it is intersting that they have divisions. I don't see why that is done unless you want to have more players/coaches getting recognized as the top. Seems to me that kind of waters down the award to some degree. I don't see other regions having multiple divisions like this and most have large and small schools. Why is there the distinction? Behrens was the KABC player of the year and is a very deserving player.
  19. That sounds good in theory and you would think that it so but you can have great stats and be a fantastic player, but if your school team is not well known or you don't go to the high profile tournaments you can get overlooked. It takes a combination of alot of things to get your name out there, especially state wide or larger. You can be the king of your district or your town, but that may not take you where you want to go.
  20. Just like last year, the ballots were not due until after the completion of the state tournament. I want to say the they were due the 20 or 21st(today). IMO, yes I think the tournament did have an effect on the outocome of Miss Basketball- Tia Gibbs will win. All year the talk was about Reid and Novosel and Gibbs was always 3rd but I think her consistient season and outstanding post-season performances will seal the deal. She had a monster state tournament despite not getting to play much in the final game - what she was able to do against Manual was very impressive. Reid was reasonably held in check by them in region but they (Manual) had no answer for Gibbs.
  21. As is football, baseball, etc. So I guess we should do away with tournament MVP's because no ONE player made the difference. There are times when you have multiple players step up equally but generally it is easy to pick out who were the key performers. As for players who score the points getting the awards, last time I checked you have to have points to win the game and that does take some skill. Now I realize that someone had to get them the ball, etc but without scoring a basket, you will lose. Offensive players who excel always get more recognition in any sport. Not everyone gets recognition in a game even though everyone contributes something in every game- except with Upward where every player gets a star. These awards are subjective no matter who you put in charge of them- someone will always feel slighted.
