  1. I like to call this the "hope" strategy - it is very sad that the two best teams within the district meet in the first round. I also agree that the games you play during the season should have an impact on who plays who at the distict level- seeding is relly the only correct way to have the best teams represented for your district. Districts who vote not to seed are hurting their region. You should earn the right to get to region by beating a quality opponet- not by luck of the draw.
  2. It is aggrivating that a ref sees it and won't call it because he doesn't want to step on the head officials toes- that happens a lot too! What is the exact role of the head official (other than checking the book) and is it an unwritten rule to let them make the majority of the calls? Just curious and how do they decide who is the head official? Is it seniority?

  4. Good win for Trimble- I am guessing it was sr night at Trimble?
  5. Sounds like a real classy event for the seniors....kuddos to Coach Mefford. It is a very special night for the players and it is nice to see the coach put so much thought into it and make it memorable. Great picture!
  6. Well said and very, very neat for both mother and daughter. Must be great to have your daughter break your record- congrats to both Erin and her mom- afterall, where do you think she got the genes.....ha! Way to go!
  7. I would agree to both- you should not notice the officials and if it comes down to one call or even several, you generally have so many missed opportunities like free throws, uncontested shots or unforced to's - it is very hard to blame the outcome soley on the officials. You may feel that way initially, but if you look at it the next say (the good ole 24 hr rule) you will be able to see where you had chances to win - you just didn't capitalize on them. I would add though, that a few well-timed bad calls can really change the momentum and most good teams will find a way to use that to their advantage.
  8. I agree- very good point - Miller is tough to handle in the post. If she gets it she will either make it or go the line and she is a good free throw shooter.
  9. Does that apply to the 8th or 9th region? Be intersting to know.....
  10. That is a great point! Do they not keep rotating though to different positions throughout the game ? It should at some point even itself out I would think.
  11. That is a great one.....WINNER in my book!:dancingpa
  12. Only adds to my comments on another thread about officiating. It is easy to miss something like that but it is all based on the crew you are with - you are only as good as who you are teamed up with. Girls games aren't as fast paced or action packed as the boys and I think the refs get bored which is why they miss things. Just my take .....
  13. I would agree that the personal insults are over the top and at times extreme. I would also add that when you choose to put on the stripes, you need to be able to separate yourself from the crowd and not get involved with them. I have seen numerous offiicials start verbal debates with the fans which IMO is not professional. They need to ignore them. There are some very good officials out there and they are much appreciated, there are just too few of them these days and why would anyone want to have to put up with all the criticism. It is a tough job and it is hard to find quality people in any job let alone officiating. I just think that you should see improvement over time and I am not seeing that with some of the officials that have been around. TB&G no offense taken, coaches may have some bias as does everyone. I think the school officials should get on the obnoxious fans which would take care of that aspect. For what it is worth I believe I am pretty objective
  14. 5 - Rockcastle 3- Ryle 3- Buckhorn 1-Williamsburg 1- Bishop Brossart 1-Scott 1-Garrard County 1-Wolfe County 1- Madison Central 1-Russell Co. Tiebreaker: total points of 5pt super game- 128 Second tiebreaker: Time of post.
  15. One of my favorites was a fan screaming for a 5 second count when the ball was not past half court yet. One of my big annoyances is when a player is shooting free throws and right when the player shoots someone "whistles/shrieks" really loudly. By the way, it didn't work- the players made their free throws.
  16. I probably watch 125+ girls & boys games a year and there are always obnoxious fans in the stands just about wherever you go. With that being said, some of these fans do not have a clue about what should or should not be called. We don't need those people to be officials. What we need is a better way of reviewing and training the officials. Does anyone sit down with them and review film to see how the did or how they could improve? My comment was not based as a fan in the stands but as a coach on the bench and IMO the quality of officiating has gone down over the past few years- maybe they have too many inexperienced officials and they will get better as time goes on. We can only hope.
  17. Does anyone have any contact information for any area teams for 13 and 14 year old players? I know that some players from northern ky play for the Ky Extreme but am not sure how young they start, etc. Lousiville KY area - with some travel might be possible. Anyone with any info on anything is much appreciated Thanks
  18. I would have to say that there is not enough scratches for all the bad offiicials - you have to choose who is the best of the worst. It would be nice if the quality of officiating would improve. There are some really bad ones out there that somehow manage to get district and region games- I would like to see girls get the same quality as the boys but that will never happen.
  19. Carroll by 4- they just had a big win and will keep the streak alive. One note though...hopefully senior night will not prove to be a distraction for them. I have had the chance to watch several sr nights this year and I have to say that there is usually a lot of distractions and the teams are not usally at their best. Games have been closer than expected...it is a good time to pull the upset.
  20. I don't think that SK will have any trouble with any of the teams in their district....sorry.. they are just the better team from what I have seen. I am with Lunatic on the underdog theory...it would be nice but I don't think that will happen. SK is a very good team defensively- that will be the difference.
  21. This will be a close one- Miller is a handful for most teams and may be too much for Carroll to handle. I like the guard play for Carroll though. Hmmmm..... Trimble by 4
  22. With Shelby beating Simon Kenton, I would have thought the gap would have narrowed - doesn't make much sense that there wasn't much changed with either of thier rankings. Also, South Oldham beat Conner by 11 and they have a 86.0 ranking and only moves up 1 pt.... As much as I try to understand the ratings, I still have to wonder if they really mean anything at all. I do not disagreee that the top 4 or 5 teams that are listed in each of the regions (8th & 9th) but I am not sure if the ratings support who is really the better team.
  23. South Oldham has had some pretty impressive defensive performances this year and are worth some consideration. They have really improved their man defense this year and are much more physical to go along with their size- they create some match-up difficulties for a lot of teams. They are # 2 in scoring defense per the khsaa stats page - which is just slightly ahead of Paris. I have not seen Paris play but they do have a fine reputation for defense.
