  1. Tough one.....I will take Owen by 5 because they are playing at home and it is hard to win at Owen. Should be a really good game....good luck to both teams!
  2. I agree and very well said. Everyone likes the "idea" of the underdog and I wish Walton all the best. I just think Simon K is too much for them.
  3. WOW...I am a bit surprised about this one- sounds like a great 4th qaurter- that would have been a big upset IMO. Congrats to the Clark Co team for making it intersting. Good luck at region.
  4. North Oldham had it down to 1 point in the third quarter but too many turnovers played into Oldham Co. favor who pulled away with the victory.
  5. I don't doubt Mr. Demling's credibility, I'd bet he has more statewide knowledge in his pinkie than I do in my whole body. It just doesn't seem right to me that De'Sarae is listed dead last on the "others close" part of his list. Even if it's not in any particular order, still being outside of the Top 10 is a travesty to me. I think that Mr. Demling is partial to some schools - especially in the Lousiville area. There are several players that could also be on the "close list" that have signed D1 scholarships, one I know of has some pretty impressive stats- not quite as good as Chambers- which are PHENOMENAL . So it just cannot be about D1 potential or stats....not sure how he makes his final determinations but he was one of the two guys listed in Kentucky area for McDonald's All American nominations and there were several very worthy players that were left off that list as well. It is all about someone's opinion - it is just hard when you see worthy players that don't get the recognition like they should. I hope that Mason gets to state!
  6. I would agree. I love to hear Coach Gilley- he cracks me up and says it like it is!
  7. Your team played hard and you have a great group of kids and coaches. Thanks for all you do to support girls basketball.
  8. Great statement! That is what it takes this time of year - find a way to win no matter what!!
  9. Good win for CC- Friday should be yet another great game with Owen. Good luck to both teams!
  10. Per Jody Demling's blog at the courierjournal.com - he has listed his top seniors for the class of 2008. He lists Reid, Gibbs, then Novosel as his top three. I pasted his info below A tough call on who is No. 1 Perhaps just as tough as the call as to what boys' senior is the best in the state is the one I had to make on what girls' player is tops in the Bluegrass State. I'd first start by saying there are three players - Natalie Novosel, Monique Reid (photo) and Tia Gibbs - that are extremely close and could all be named No. 1. Novosel is headed to Notre Dame and has been one of the state's elite players for Lexington Catholic since she was a freshman. She can do it all on the floor. Gibbs has also starred for Butler since she was in the eighth-grade and the Vanderbilt signee has turned in an exceptional senior season. She was the MVP of the LIT earlier this month. And Reid, well the University of Louisville signee led the state in scoring and rebounding last season and is second in scoring (31.8) and first in rebounding (18.9) again this season. Reid is virtually impossible to stop on the offensive end of the floor. Now, to separate those three. Whew, a tough, tough call. But I'm going to go with Reid by just a little nudge over Gibbs with Novosel not too far behind in third. All three are really going to be exceptional college players. Here's my list of top seniors in Kentucky: Monique Reid, Fern Creek Tia Gibbs, Butler Natalie Novosel, Lexington Catholic Janae Howard, Owensboro Ceira Ricketts, Fairdale Chantelle Pressley, Paul Dunbar Gwen Rucker, Henry Clay Brittany Wilson, Manual Maggie Prewitt, Montgomery County Tacarra Hayes, Marion County
  11. I would have to agree that Reid can dominate against the best players in the state. She is a phenomenal player and a joy to watch and should win but.... Novosel is also a terrific player and can domiante but not the same way that Reid can. If she is able to lead her team out of district and region, she may have a chance though to upset Reid. People have talked about Novosel since she was a freshman and she has an extremely loyal following and remember that the votes come from all across the state. Reid's pr had been more in the last two years. There is no doubt that Reid has superior stats but it doesn't always come down to that....it depends on what people use as their deciding vote. Both are great players.
  12. South played one of their worst games against Trimble in January and I would say that Trimble played one of their best games on that same night- yet South still won by 13. South's poor play was self induced that night and give Trimble credit that they were able to take advantage of it during the game. Some of their key players were not focused and their was a lot of individualism that night which has been corrected for the most part. With that being said, South will come out against them much differently than they did back in January. Coach Wright will have them ready to play and the seniors will have something to prove- especially after the loss to Bardstown. I have a lot of respect for Trimble and their coaching staff- they are a great group of people & players. I just think South will be a handful for them on Tuesday. South by 15
  13. Been out of commision all weekend but had to reply. Congrats Lauren - I have seen her play a lot but it was an impressive performance against Bardstown. It is a real shame for the seniors though that they didn't win their last game on their home floor. I know it was a disappointment for them. They played hard but other that Lauren, they just couldn't get a shot to fall. FYI....Lauren broke the scoring record that night as well- old record was 36 by Ashley Trosper against Bullitt East, ANDd had a double double with rebounds - what a night!! I am surpised that there was not a write up in the Courier Journal - 2000 points is a big milestone for any player.
  14. Wow! College ball is a big committment- maybe she will miss it and walk-on somewhere. She has had a wonderful high school career- which is something to be proud of whether she plays college or not. Ending on your own terms is not so bad either.
  15. Senior night is tough for the home team- lots of distractions and emotions going on. CC could be a spolier if WV doesn't come out ready to play.
  16. Lauren Jones, senior guard/forward from South Oldham, is just 24 points away from 2000. They have a home game tonight and open district play against Trimble next week. Against Trimble back in January, she became the all time leading scorer for girls at SO. Not sure about the boys record there - she might have both. I did some research and according to the KHSAA 2008 stats website. Lauren is ranked in the top 20 in scoring, top 30 in 3 pt fg's, and is # 1 in the state with free throw percentage. I have enjoyed watching her play over the years- she is such a smart player and a great student to boot. SO will really miss her leadership both on and off the floor. Good Luck Lauren the rest of this year and at Austin Peay.
  17. This will be a good game - not sure where this game is being played at? Since WV just had a big win over Trimble- I am going to go with them by 4. Sorry Lunatic- I do agree that it will come down to who hit the three! So I could be wrong if CC has a good shooting night! Good Luck to both teams!
  18. I like to call this the "hope" strategy - it is very sad that the two best teams within the district meet in the first round. I also agree that the games you play during the season should have an impact on who plays who at the distict level- seeding is relly the only correct way to have the best teams represented for your district. Districts who vote not to seed are hurting their region. You should earn the right to get to region by beating a quality opponet- not by luck of the draw.
  19. It is aggrivating that a ref sees it and won't call it because he doesn't want to step on the head officials toes- that happens a lot too! What is the exact role of the head official (other than checking the book) and is it an unwritten rule to let them make the majority of the calls? Just curious and how do they decide who is the head official? Is it seniority?
