Sounds like a real classy event for the seniors....kuddos to Coach Mefford. It is a very special night for the players and it is nice to see the coach put so much thought into it and make it memorable. Great picture! -
I would agree to both- you should not notice the officials and if it comes down to one call or even several, you generally have so many missed opportunities like free throws, uncontested shots or unforced to's - it is very hard to blame the outcome soley on the officials. You may feel that way initially, but if you look at it the next say (the good ole 24 hr rule) you will be able to see where you had chances to win - you just didn't capitalize on them. I would add though, that a few well-timed bad calls can really change the momentum and most good teams will find a way to use that to their advantage.

I agree- very good point - Miller is tough to handle in the post. If she gets it she will either make it or go the line and she is a good free throw shooter. -
Does that apply to the 8th or 9th region? Be intersting to know.....

That is a great point! Do they not keep rotating though to different positions throughout the game ? It should at some point even itself out I would think.

That is a great one.....WINNER in my book!:dancingpa -
Only adds to my comments on another thread about officiating. It is easy to miss something like that but it is all based on the crew you are with - you are only as good as who you are teamed up with. Girls games aren't as fast paced or action packed as the boys and I think the refs get bored which is why they miss things. Just my take .....

I would agree that the personal insults are over the top and at times extreme. I would also add that when you choose to put on the stripes, you need to be able to separate yourself from the crowd and not get involved with them. I have seen numerous offiicials start verbal debates with the fans which IMO is not professional. They need to ignore them. There are some very good officials out there and they are much appreciated, there are just too few of them these days and why would anyone want to have to put up with all the criticism. It is a tough job and it is hard to find quality people in any job let alone officiating. I just think that you should see improvement over time and I am not seeing that with some of the officials that have been around. TB&G no offense taken, coaches may have some bias as does everyone. I think the school officials should get on the obnoxious fans which would take care of that aspect. For what it is worth I believe I am pretty objective

Some fans yell the dumbest things

One of my favorites was a fan screaming for a 5 second count when the ball was not past half court yet. One of my big annoyances is when a player is shooting free throws and right when the player shoots someone "whistles/shrieks" really loudly. By the way, it didn't work- the players made their free throws. -
I probably watch 125+ girls & boys games a year and there are always obnoxious fans in the stands just about wherever you go. With that being said, some of these fans do not have a clue about what should or should not be called. We don't need those people to be officials. What we need is a better way of reviewing and training the officials. Does anyone sit down with them and review film to see how the did or how they could improve? My comment was not based as a fan in the stands but as a coach on the bench and IMO the quality of officiating has gone down over the past few years- maybe they have too many inexperienced officials and they will get better as time goes on. We can only hope.

I would have to say that there is not enough scratches for all the bad offiicials - you have to choose who is the best of the worst. It would be nice if the quality of officiating would improve. There are some really bad ones out there that somehow manage to get district and region games- I would like to see girls get the same quality as the boys but that will never happen.

Williamstown At Carroll Co. Predictions
crazy8s replied to Lunatic1's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
Carroll by 4- they just had a big win and will keep the streak alive. One note though...hopefully senior night will not prove to be a distraction for them. I have had the chance to watch several sr nights this year and I have to say that there is usually a lot of distractions and the teams are not usally at their best. Games have been closer than expected...it is a good time to pull the upset. -
I don't think that SK will have any trouble with any of the teams in their district....sorry.. they are just the better team from what I have seen. I am with Lunatic on the underdog theory...it would be nice but I don't think that will happen. SK is a very good team defensively- that will be the difference.

This will be a close one- Miller is a handful for most teams and may be too much for Carroll to handle. I like the guard play for Carroll though. Hmmmm..... Trimble by 4 -
Newest CJ LIT rankings from today. 2/14
crazy8s replied to paNDA's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
With Shelby beating Simon Kenton, I would have thought the gap would have narrowed - doesn't make much sense that there wasn't much changed with either of thier rankings. Also, South Oldham beat Conner by 11 and they have a 86.0 ranking and only moves up 1 pt.... As much as I try to understand the ratings, I still have to wonder if they really mean anything at all. I do not disagreee that the top 4 or 5 teams that are listed in each of the regions (8th & 9th) but I am not sure if the ratings support who is really the better team. -
Best Defensive teams and best Defenders
crazy8s replied to AllKnower's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
South Oldham has had some pretty impressive defensive performances this year and are worth some consideration. They have really improved their man defense this year and are much more physical to go along with their size- they create some match-up difficulties for a lot of teams. They are # 2 in scoring defense per the khsaa stats page - which is just slightly ahead of Paris. I have not seen Paris play but they do have a fine reputation for defense. -
What are the Transfer rules?
crazy8s replied to Pcladycatdad's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
Yes you can appeal but it is not a guarentee that you will be cleared. What about a player who was a varisty player one year and does not play the next year (same school) but then wants to transfer the following year to another school. Do they still have to sit out a year at the new school or because they did not play a year, does that cover them to play right away? -
I am not as familiar with the SK player rotations but I thought that Wainscott played more than I saw her play in previous games- maybe she took minutes from Farris???? Wainscott did hit 4 three's but I thought she made some mistakes that Farris doesn't usually make. I thought maybe Farris was sick as well and I am not sure about being in foul trouble against Shelby.

What are the Transfer rules?
crazy8s replied to Pcladycatdad's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
In order to transfer during the season, you would have to physically move. That would also apply to someone who plays v one year and transfers to a new school the next year. In order to do that, you have to physically move - have address in that district. I am sure if someonw wants to do it bad enoough there are ways around that. -
I don't know their names but I do know their faces and they(that crew that night) have all done alot of the high profile 8th region games- see them alot in the three man crews. IMO, it is all based on who the lead official is and how they call the game- the others will follow. SK did not play well and Shelby didn't make any mistakes in the second half. I still want to know about Farris though - why didn't she play as much?
