South Oldham 46 Trimble County 19

Recommended Posts

Tough game for both teams. South played without leading scorer Jordann McGuffin, who was out. Coach Wright, not happy with his team's recent play, also shuffled his starting lineup and came out with a lineup of three freshmen (5-10 F Mary Dye, 5-5 G Lissa Gamsky, and 5-7 G Maddie Wright), plus 5-7 Jr. F Vicki Bray and 6-0 Sr. C Britany Shaver.

Trimble started an 8th Grader, freshman, sophomore, and two juniors.

Both teams' rosters are very young; 5 of 11 South players are freshmen, and half the Trimble roster is freshmen or below.

Game started slow and not very pretty. South led just 18-13 at the half, with the Lady Dragons hitting just 26.9% of their shots, and Trimble - though they shot 50% - limited to just 10 FGA.

The second half was a different story. Trimble did not hit a single FG in the second half, going 0 for 9 for the 2H. They scored three points in the 3Q and three more in the fourth, all on FTs. South outscored the Lady Raiders, 28-6, in the half to win going away.

Freshman Jasmine Whitfield came off the bench to lead South in scoring with 14; freshman Mary Dye led the Lady Dragons on the boards with 8.

Trimble was led by Katie Callis with 7.

South (5-9, 2-1) 12 6 10 18 - 46

Trimble (1-11, 0-2) 9 4 3 3 - 19

Trimble was undone by 26 turnovers and South won the rebounding war, 29-16.

District 29

Oldham County 2-0

South Oldham 2-1

North Oldham 0-1

Trimble County 0-2

South guaranteed themselves the #2 seed, no less, and still has a remote shot at the #1 seed. Oldham secures the #1 seed with a win over North Oldham.

South can take the #1 seed only IF North beats Oldham AND Trimble, creating a three-way tie at the top (Oldham, North, and South would all be 2-1 in that instance.) North, Oldham, and South would then decide the #1, #2, and #3 seeds based on their Litkenhous ratings.

Pretty ugly first half all around for both teams. South Oldham managed to do some things in the second half to pull away to get a badly needed win for the lady dragons. Hope they can turn things around and McGuffin returns soon.

Youth seems to be the big story for the 8th this year and Trimble Co definitely has their share of that as well.

Of the 15 dressed Saturday, there were 2 juniors, 1 sophomore and the rest were freshmen and 8th graders.
