In the game last year at JC, I seem to remember that they were so pre-occupied with the screen pass that they didn't really put a real rush on Tony, and the d-line sort of stayed at the line of scrimmage without fighting to get the QB. It was insane how much time he had to pass on some of the long plays, especially the one to Gold in the second half.

Let's hope so! I seem to recall maybe 3 passes in the game last year. Two were completed and one was incomplete. The only problem with the two completions were that they went to Bardo. Not sure if their passing game has improved any since last year, but with HHS' defensive backfield in '09, I'm not too worried that JC is going to beat us with a passing attack.

I wonder why they weren't prepared for that. It was prominent on the film of the game against Montgomery County. In fact, MC made some in game adjustments, and their quarterback got up under center and ran a sneak several times, with a little success. He didn't run for 30 yards or anything like that, but did make a couple of gains.:idunno:

I heard somewhere that all the playoff games were to be at 7:30, but due to the close proximity of Dixie, they agreed to move it up to 7:00. That, or they were just messing with you, crunch.:thumb:

I have not doubt that they did. But Highlands O-Line and running backs, I perceive, are at a different level than Ashland. I also think that the number of linemen playing both ways for Dixie will cause them to wear down that much quicker. That is, unless Dixie is going to deploy a special formation, line rotation, or get some new players involved on one side of the ball or the other.:sssh: As you point out, however, it will all need to come together tonight. For both teams!

You also forgot to mention that in the first game, Dixie had a pretty good number of yards of total offense.:thumb: And you are right that anything can happen. My point, perhaps inarticulately made through this thread, is that I haven't see the "Dixie talent playing to their potential" with any regularity this season. Yes, an occasional great play here and there, but more often than not, the usual Dixie performance. We'll both have to wait and see until Friday night!

Big guys, and as of the beginning of the season, the starters were all returning from last year. Some play both ways, or at least they did in the first game with Highlands.

For the answer to the bolded part on paragraph 2, please see the bolded part of paragraph 1. As for the first thought about Dixie playing up to their potential, I don't quite get the concept. If the entire season for a team (any team actually) is marked by inconsistent results, why is it necessary to say they aren't playing up to their potential?

Given the lopsided outcome of the regular season game, and that HHS has everyone for this game that they did for the last, I don't see it. However, even if (a very big if) the pressure is on Highlands, I know they have handled the pressure this year, and will do so again on Friday. :thumb:

Please don't mistake fans' predictions and boasting for how the team prepares. HHS is working hard this week, just like they will do from here on out, to ensure they are ready for anything thrown their way!

Well, I guess we'll just have to try harder next year to impress you! As you know, you play the hand you're dealt. While the KY playoff system leaves a lot to be desired, I think you will agree that Ohio's does as well. As for scheduling games with top teams, like St. Xavier, Elder, Columbus DeSales, and in some years Colerain, Highlands gets a lot more than the W or L from the game. The preparation during those weeks is intensified, as is the focus for all players on the team. That preparation mirrors what the team will have to do throughout the playoffs to win another state championship, which begins tomorrow night in Ft. Thomas. I look forward to your contributions to the HHS threads, and anticipate lots more these next few weeks, as your time won't be as divided following other teams.

Well, I could answer that, but then I'd have to kill you. Seriously, I have no idea. But, if he doesn't, I look for Tyler Fennell to have a big game. He has never failed to step up when called upon. For a change of pace, Streeter and Bardo will add a little speed to get outside. It will be interesting to see how Dale mixes these three into the running game Friday night.

So, are you saying he (Bardo) won't be playing QB this week?:sssh:

We'll have to wait and see if Pat Towles is the starter this week. When HHS scrimmaged Male before the season, in the second half, junior Ty Seidl played QB for a few series in the fourth quarter. He started the majority of the JV games last season, and ran the offense well. So, I wouldn't count him out. In preparation for X, I would bet that Ty didn't take any snaps at QB, however, with a week of preparation, I wouldn't be surprised. Of course, Pat may get the nod, and with a week of taking the majority of snaps, will be ready. Remember, the coaching staff did an excellent job preparing the team for the game vs. X knowing what they had to work with and against, and will do the same thing against Dixie. Either QB in the game will have the same starting O Line, Receivers and backfield, who will all step up and play just as well.

Sure is. Probably did every one of the Boone County @ Highlands games since some time in the 70's, maybe earlier than that.:idunno:
