Sunday morning Carroll County lost one of the football players through another tragic loss of life. This was a young man who was always described as having a smile on his face which makes it harder to understand. What I would like is for the BGP'ers to respond so that I can print out this thread and share it with the team as they work to keep their ship on a somewhat even keel. According to the KHSAA Calendar, the Board of Control met on August 1 in Gilbertsville, (Marshall County). There are appeals hearing scheduled for August 7, 8 and 14. Appeals hearings are also scheduled for September 4,5, and 25. The next board of control meeting is September 30 in Lexington.

High school athletes who play on traveling teams, primarily basketball and baseball, team camps, individual camps, team conditioning and whatever else you want to mention have no off season except for this dead period. My son attended a camp last week and my daughter is at a camp this week all during dead period. SO if not for dead period when do you take your vacation. We are not taking a family vacation this year. We are doing some day trips. Our choice... Your choice is what you make. I agree that the dead period needs to be longer and all choices need to be shut down for that period. No camps, AAU etc. Our society would be better if we spent a little more time on the porch with our neighbors than sitting on plastic and aluminum

Ask you school representative to the KSHAA annual meeting. This was a by-laws addition so it was voted on by the member schools. The schools decided this idea of a set date and voted it in.

This is what I have heard. He is an assistant principal and Grant County instituted a policy that adminstators cannot be coaches so he cannot be the baseball coach.

Carroll County went 3-1 defeating Grant, Pendleton and Gallatin before losing in the last to Grant.

Unearned runs are based on outs not who is pitching. Any runs scored after two outs and an error would be unearned by the staff as the team shouldn't be on the field.

Final

If a batter reaches on an error and then that same batter/runner scores, the run is unearned since he should not be a runner. Any other runs that score after two outs in that 1/2 inning would also be unearned.

Same conditions for both teams, it did not warm up but it quite raining and the wind died down some.

Unless someone hangs 21 K's in a game all of the games are decided by who makes the plays and more often who doesn't make plays.

I believe it is Henry County's turn. Right now Shelby, Anderson and Henry have the only approved fields.

As an umpire I see most high school pitchers beginning to struggle after 5 complete innings. Remember I said most not all. I would guess that is roughly 80 pitches. They lose velosity and miss spots. Pitch counts would also change how pitchers think on the mound. There will be a change how they waste pitches after getting ahead two strikes if they are on counts. More pitchers attacking hitters. Check the large newspapers, most list number of pitches today's starting pitchers example: Innings - Pitch count 6 - 94 5.1 - 102 7 - 98 7 - 114 6 - 93 6 -98 7 - 109 7 - 104 6 - 102 5 - 83 3 - 64 under current rules 0 days rest !! 6 - 97 6 - 105 6 - 87 You get the picture as these professionals will get 4 days rest before their next start, ice on their arm immediately, training room to massage tightness. High school players - ice when they get home, often play another position - kills me to see the pitcher become the new catcher or the catcher to become the new pitcher.

The 8th region leaves innings up to the coaches. Most are scheduled as 5 or 7 when schedules are turned in. Several schools do not have lights so 2 to 3 is the norm at those sites until late in the season. There is a sliding scale for the games based on either predetrmined 5 or 7 innings. Level doesn't matter. In freshman and JV games the umps don't keep lineups and it doesn't matter how you bat to them. Do play straight up baseball and contrary to belief the strike zone doesn't get larger just more marginal pitches are called strikes. Have them swinging coaches!
