If that is the case how did Laura Terry get on the team? Was she a replacent for someone else? And if Rose Hill making the tournament was an issue then why did they take Laura and not another 16th region player whose team did not make the tournament? All seems very strange to me but Big Bubba and many others will be the first to agree that I am a little slow. :creepy: :sssh:

I believe that Fortman and Terry both deserved to be in this game but how in the world do they, the powers that be, justify keeping one of the at least top 10 players in the state out of the game? And if this has anything to do with dislike for a coach, a parent or anything else that does not have anything to do directly with what Emily Queen was able to accomplish on the court then shame on them. This makes two years in a row that the Lady Royals have been slighted in one postseason award or another and it is just wrong, no other way of putting it. And I am saying this as someone who has not been a fan of Rose Hill over the years but as a former official, coach and player I cannot deny obvious talent, Ms. Queen, and obvious wrong doing, her being left off of this all star team.

If a parent holds back a child for emotional, social or educational reasons I have zero problem with that and I applaude them for doing what is right for the child/children. However, I have seen parents hold kids back that had "B" averages just to give them a physical edge in sports. That is wrong. I think a great rule that would discourage a lot of this would be that any player that reaches the age of 19 before a season starts cannot play that sport. For example, if a player turned 19 in October he/she could play football or run cross country but not play any of the other sports that started after that. Or a player that turned 19 in February could play all the fall sports and basketball but would not be able to participate in baseball, softball or track. It may not solve all of the problems but it would help with some. A very well known basketball player this year turned 19 in September, that is just too old and he has a big advantage over any freshmen or sophomores that he played against, maturity and physically. I know that I am not going to change many minds if any but there is a reason why 18 is considered a legal adult age and anyone over 18 is an adult for sure.

Keep your head up girls, especially the seniors. Unbelievable run the last two seasons, so much to be proud of. Very young team coming back next year but with good coaching and hard work the Lady Royals will be back among the best in no time at all.

The fans of the Lions should be very happy and proud of their teams success this year, but I have noticed some on here not having a lot of class toward the runner up Ashland. Not a great example for the kids to see, IMO. And those thumping their chest loudly about next year and the year after. A lot can happen between now and then and Rose Hill is a nice little team too, they may have a lot to say about the region titles the next few years too.

Big win tonight for the Lions. Look for Rose Hill and Elliott to compete for the region title for the next two years.

Wow. Great job to both Coach Trimble and Ms. Fortman but I too wonder how they passed over Emily Queen on this one. Individually her stats are beyond compare and team wise she has now lead her team to back to back Sweet Sixteens. I am in no way trying to disrespect Ms. Fortman, a great player and person. But on both fronts, individually and within team success, Emily Queen was the top player.

Elliott may win but I think that another local small school may have something to say about the next two years. :thumb:

If scooterbob was referring to the team with the best record against region teams then he is correct in mentioning Russell. They did defeat Elliott and everyone they played against in the region, lost only to Boyd and I think they may have beat them later on, could be wrong. But a healthy Russell team with all players present is, in my opinion and many others, the best the 16th region has to offer.

I will be cheering for the Tomcat's, something unusual for me. They will have a tough time with Elliott though. The Lions have been on a roll and were able to shake off a sub par shooting night and defeat Russell. Ashland's ingredients to victory are McDavid and Bonner getting a lot of defensive rebounds and Matt Thomas going to the basket and getting foul calls. If Ferguson and/or Knipp get into foul trouble Ashland has a good chance, but if that does not happen I look for Elliott to win this one.

Way to go Lady Royals!!! You all have had an awesome year so far and it is far from over. Good luck at the state tournament. And a special congratulations to Britt Faulkner. I have got to know her and Kala a little bit the past few years and I am just very, very proud of both of them and what they have done on and off the court the last few years. Great job ladies.

Should be a great game. The Russell inside game against the running Lady Royals. I agree with one of the earlier posts. If the game is called tight then that plays to the Lady Devils but if the refs let them play and calls it loose then Rose Hill will be tough to stop. I am cheering for the Lady Royals, would love to see them make another trip to the state tournament.

While Russell has to be the favorite I too will not count out the Kittens while they are coached by Bill Bradley, the man who cut out the bottom of the peach baskets for Naismith!!! Bill Bradley has been around basketball more than Big Bubba has been around the buffet's, and that says a lot!!!

Jerry Johnson of Paul Blazer. About 6"6 and was offered track scholarships in track for high jump. And Jason Goad could elevate pretty good. About 3 or 4 years after he was out of high school I saw him get about 3 inches above the white square on the backboard. Not too bad.

Can't, could'nt and wanted to jump would have to include Steve Day. And one of the best leapers I ever saw was Mark Watkins, loved some of his dunks at Dreamland !!!

I will not say the players names because all that will do is start a HUGE backlash that I do not feel like dealing with. But myself and others on this thread now exactly who they are and I can assure you that they are very popular athletes.

And as far as who is the best to have played in this area I don't think that there is a clear choice above all others, especially since the game is so different now and society is so different as well. There was a time when it was unusual to have 19 year olds playing in high school, now it is the norm. Two of the more celebrated players locally will be 20 before their first college game, how impressive that they dominate much younger opponents each night.

One I made my list of local players I did not go beyond the early to mid 70's, and mentioned that there were several from earlier teams that I would have listed as well if I had went back that far. Just wanted to make that clear as possible for some that may be confused.

One thing that you had right, not a better athlete in the region than Scott Gill.

I don't know a lot about Branham but Wooten was a great point guard for the Lion's and one of the smartest players the 16th region has ever seen.

I don't have the score from the state tournament appearance that Russell had with Hensley but I would venture to say that it was more than 27.

I will go out on a limb and say Russell by 10. I think that the Red Devils will be very focused and be ready to play.
