They are more athletic, more experienced, better coached and was playing at home on senior night. Hmmmm, looks like all of the ingredients for victory to me, but that is just me.

I am sorry. I thought the officiating was part of the game, at least that is what I have been hearing on this thread from others.

I don't think it would be too hard to figure out that I am from the general area that the officials are from since I say that I am from Ashland Kentucky and coached, officiated and played in the 16th region. As far as the teams I support, I support two of the smallest schools in the region. Officials are not influenced in the manner you suggest. If all the larger schools were getting the breaks then last year I guess Fairview and Elliott would have been out of the regional tournament. Fact: Russell returned most of their best players from last year as did Elliott. Fact: Russell beat Elliott in the regional tournament. So, why is it that the officials cost the Lions the game? Maybe, just maybe, Russell is better than Elliott, at least this past Tuesday night. And yes, the schools I am talking about whose fans are constantly blaming the officials are small schools, at least one of them for sure.

I have coached, officiated and played in the 16th region and I know that officials make mistakes, just like coaches and players do. And I have seen my own get hammered and a call not get made. So does that mean that the officials cost my team the game? No. The officials don't take shots, pass the ball or play defense. If they make a bad call then do the same thing when you take a bad shot or make a bad pass; get over it and go on and play the game. But I am sure that I am not the only one that finds it ridiculous that so many fans, a lot of them from a couple of schools, blame the officials every time that their team loses. I have SO much respect for those who have posted on here just giving Russell credit for the win and hoping to play them again in the post season. That is the right attitude to take. I am sure that the Lions players would like nothing better than to end Russell's season in the regional tournament and that could happen. Elliot is a very good team that on any given night can beat anyone in this region. That is why anyone blaming the refs are doing both Elliot and Russell an injustice. And by the way, I am not a queen, but you can call me king if you would like.

In the 16th Region I would have to say it should be either Emily Queen or Laura Terry of Rose Hill. Either one would be worthy in my opinion.

Russell was better this night, enough of the complaining about the officials. Some schools fans and supporters just cannot seem to understand and accept that their team is not going to win every game, instead they blame the officials for the loss. So, when Elliot lost in the All A to Paintsville I guess that was bad officiating too. How about just giving credit to Russell and moving on?

The Lions are a very good team with a very bright future. But, I would not guarantee that they will rule the region for the next three years. I think that Rose Hill will have a lot of talent to contend with as well. Based on all I have seen the last couple of years and this year, it would appear that Rose Hill and Elliot County will be contending for the All A and 16th Region titles. Not taking anything away from Elliot at all, but Rose Hill has some very good young players as well.

The better team won last night, bottom line. The Lions have a very good team and could very well contend for the regional title this year. But with Russell having three players foul out of the game I cannot see how the officials were having a lot of "no calls" throughout the game, even the first half. One cannot always place blame on the officials when a team loses.

No, they seem focused, good example was the big win at Boyd County. I think that Coach Fraley will do a good job of making sure they are ready for districts.

I hope they get to play and I would love to see the Royals win huge. Not a big fan of Menifee, sorry.

A very good and honest post. Until the Lions at least perform better in the All A then to say that they are a top tier team is a reach. It is one thing to be one of the top two or three teams in the 16th Region, but an entire different thing to be considered one of the top teams in the state.

:dancingpa A great milestone reached by a wonderful young lady. She and Laura Terry are one of the best duos I have seen in this area, male or female. Best of luck to Emily and Laura this Fall when they go to their respective colleges, it has been a pleasure to watch both of you over the years.

Sounds like an awesome game. It was just a couple of years ago that they played a triple overtime game between these two teams at Fairview, the Eagles won that one, can't remember the score but both teams were in the 90's in that one. This is one of the most hard fought rivalries in the area, I am surprised that this game was this close, nice to see Cameron Hall coming on, he is a very talented freshman who is flying under the radar so to speak.

It was a hard fought game and HHS was much better served getting the ball into Patterson a lot more this time around. The officiating did not cost Scott the game but the two obvious calls that they missed, the over and back and the out of bounds, just stick out due to the high profile of this game. Scott missed some easy shots and still had a chance to win against a very good team, Coach Hicks probably is not into moral victories but I can't see him being too upset over this loss.

Fairview Jeff Hall Clarence Thompson Brice Thornsbury Don Rigsby Mike Helton There have been some pretty good talent to travel through the halls of this very small school. Fairview could put their top ten up against just about anybody's in the 16th region, in my humble opinion.

Big win for the Royals. Should give them confidence heading into the districts.

My five: 1. Beasley 2. Gordon 3. Love 4. Rose 5. Mayo It will be interesting to see how they all do in college, where all the expectations are going to be even higher for these players than it was for them in high school.

Great game between two old rivals. Raceland is just a little bit better and little bit deeper this year, but Fairview has some fine young players that may equal a bright future for the Eagles.

HHS could have easily lost this one. PHS missed a lot of free throws and some shots inside as well. HHS got off to a good start or they may have been in some real trouble. Can't wait to watch the Scott County game Thursday night, should be a real good one. If Patterson does not totally dominate, I look for Scott to win this one too.

I do as well, due to being too weak to push away my plate I stick with the Lite variety as well.:laugh: :banana:
