  1. IF, and that's a huge IF, Whitaker goes to Corbin to be Tony P's assistant, that would really solidify Corbin's chances of being the #1 team in the 13th in preseason.
  2. I don't think the voters agreed with you and I LMB. Its a done deal. Pettigrew will be anounced Mr. Basketball at E'town High School at 2PM today.
  3. You could be right. That was in 1986 if I remember correctly. That's 21 years ago. Mike Jones was promoting Nic Sanford for Mr. Basketball at Cawood in 1986. Good thing there was not internet message boards back then.
  4. And it wasn't even a very good district.
  5. So when was the last time a Mr Basketball did not make it out of the distict? Does anyone have an idea?
  6. Just out of curiosity, when was the last time a Mr. Basketball's team didn't make it to the regional tournament? If I am not mistaken, during at least the last 10 years every Mr. Basketball has taken his team to at least the semi-finals of the regional tournament. I think the last 10 have all been district champions as well.
  7. If Mr. Basketball is a "one man show" award my vote would go to John Smith of Harlan High School. He averaged over 30 points a game on a pretty bad team.
  8. Show you guys are saying we should penalize Walls because he was on such a great team? Where is it written that you must be a "one man show" to win the Mr. Basketball player award?
  9. If Pettigrew wins it may be the first time in recent history that Mr. Basketball's team lost 11 games and didn't win a game against a top 15 team in the state.
  10. I would go along with that. No team accomplished more.
  11. Through Cary, over Arjay mountain and through Beverly and Queendale? I wouldn't think you could make that trip in much under 90 minutes. Of course you could make a rest stop at the Hwy 66 Chicken Fighting arena at Big Creek on the way.
  12. You do know that JD coached there once before?
  13. Probably takes about 1 1/2 hours to get from Log Mountain to Hazard.
  14. CovCath was very good this year and Brossart was decent but I wouldn't exactly call St Henry, Cov Holy Cross, and Highlands state powers.
  15. I doubt the SC job pays much more than other county high schools in central Kentucky. I think Hicks makes much more on his camps than any coach in the state. Most coaches have one week of basketball camp. Hicks has several weeks of camp with morning and evening sessions. The camps are very well attended by kids throughout central Kentucky and a few from out of state. The Lousville high schools pay less coaching pay than any public schools in Kentucky. However, their teacher's salaries are tops in the state so in the end the pay is about the same.
  16. I think there are, just not from Ohio. Scott Co played the state champs frow West Va. (twice), Nevada, Florida, and the top team from Baltimore. One year Scott Co played 8 games against state champions.
  17. I was told recently, by a father who had a son play in this game, that they charge the kids $250 to play in this game. That don't sound right.
  18. I really don't think the Enquirer is a very good high school sports newspaper, other than covering the GCL in football. The Courier-Journal in Louisville and the Lexington Herald are much better for high school basketball fans. Does Gallatin County have a local newspaper that covers their games? As far as local newspapers that do a good job of covering their geographical area check out the Harlan Daily Enterprise, the Times Tribune in Corbin, the Ashland Independent, and the Georgetown News. All of these are online. They wont be covering Gallatin Co but I enjoy reading about teams all across the state.
  19. In head to head: Miller scored more points Mackey had more rebounds Miller was forced into more turnovers (6) They were equal in assists However, the ONLY stat that really matters when all is said and done is Mackey's team won the game.
  20. That is exactly what happened in the 1999 Sweet 16 semi-final. A Paducah Tilghman defender backed under Scott Hundley. In that case the official got the call correct. The game tape showed it. However, most of the casual fans in attendance thought it was a horrible call. This call is still talked about today.
  21. I don't think it was much of a contest who had the best overall program even then. In the previous 10 years Scott Co had won 6 regional championships, Oldham Co had won 3 and Anderson Co had won 1. In the same time period Scott Co had won 13 Sweet 16 games and Oldham Co had won only 2. I think Scott Co was much more respected around the state than Oldham County.
  22. Details are being worked out now for Simeon to be Scott County's opponent at Marshall Co.
  23. Its tough to play other sports and basketball in large schools with top notch programs unless you are very naturally talented athlete. I'm not saying it can't be done. Basketball is such a skill development game that it takes a lot of time to continue to develop these skills. I don't think you should choose one sport or another by 5th grade as asked, maybe by 9th or 10th grade. At smaller schools or schools without great programs it is more possible to play multiple sports for the average athlete.
  24. If you don't think it is possible for Scott County's schedule to get stronger than it was this year, take a look at some of their out of state games for next year. Simeon (Chicago Ill). For those of you that don't keep up with the top teams in the country, Simeon was the only team to beat Oak Hill this year. St Anthony New Jersey. St Anthony is one of the nation's best each year. They are coached by Bob Hurley and had a record of 28-1 this year. Scott Co will play this game at Springfield Mass at the basketball Hall of Fame. City of Palms Tournament and Beach Ball Classic. Most years these are the top two tournaments in the country.
