IMO Matt Walls showed all year why he should be Mr. Basketball. He is my pick. Pettigrew had a great season, but he couldnt get his team out of the district and Walls led his team to a state title.

Did Pettigrew have anyone with the talent of Mackey, Hundley or Lee on his team? I think those individuals had a little something to do with the Cardinals getting out of the district. It was not just Walls playing for Scott County.

Or Hungtington High school, the great team from Baltimore, the great team from Nevada, and AJ Stewart's high school in Florida?

But once again, It wasn't like Walls was the only star on the team. Mackey is another D1 recruit and led them in the state title game.

 

Walls had a much better supporting cast. He didn't single handedly lead Scott Co to the state championhip.

Okay your a Holmes fan. Walls dropped 26 on Holmes while Mackey struggled a little bit in that one until the 2nd half. I thought he played an excellent game against Holmes! That got them to the championship game.

If Pettigrew wins it may be the first time in recent history that Mr. Basketball's team lost 11 games and didn't win a game against a top 15 team in the state.

Tates Creek and Holmes are the only 2 impressive teams on that list compared to what Scott Co has played against. An allstar game does not count btw. Also no way Scott Co wins a state title this year without Matt Walls. The thing he could not even win a district game to get into the regional tournament. Since they changed Mr. Basketball to include the post season I believe that really hurts Pettigrew. I think Walls deserves the award.

It depends on what you base your vote on-team accomplishments or individual ability. I have seen both play. Wall's team obviously fared betterand is is a super player, but based on what I saw Saturday night, Pettigrew is the superior player. Either would be a great choice!

Whos to say Walls wouldnt score 30 points a game and even won more games if he had played with Etown's team? I seen Walls play very impressive in some really big games and that IMO is what makes him Mr. Basketball. This isnt baseball, there is much more to it than stats.

I had someone tell me in another post that awards like this are purely based on performance. Tell me what else more there is out there to base this award on. I agree that there is more criteria but I was told that only numbers mattered.

 

On that same breath, though, I do not beleive that a player should win an award like Mr. Basketball just because his team won the state championship. I do not even think Walls is the best player on his team!
