I can't help but think that Walls seems to be getting an inordinate amount of credit for the success of a tremendously talented Scott County team. He's a fine player, but he was hardly a one-man show. His game benefitted as much from the talent around him as they did from his presence.

Show you guys are saying we should penalize Walls because he was on such a great team? Where is it written that you must be a "one man show" to win the Mr. Basketball player award?

If Mr. Basketball is a "one man show" award my vote would go to John Smith of Harlan High School. He averaged over 30 points a game on a pretty bad team.

Wow, talk about taking a comment out of context. Walls is a fine player, but he didn't lead a collection of stiffs to the state title ... he played one a very talented team with at least one other surefire Division I player.

 

For what it's worth, Pettigrew was the epitome of a one-man show. So was Matt Fraliex, and both were on much better teams.

His supporting cast simply wasn't very good. Walls didn't have to make his teammates better ... they were already very good.

 

If you do not think Walls makes players around him much better than we are wasting our time. You either do not know what your talking about or you simply have not seen him play enough.

Its interesting that only 2 players on Scott County's team averaged over 10 points a game. The thing I always noticed about Walls was how consistent he was each and every game. He also filled up the stat sheet each night that I seen.

Just out of curiosity, when was the last time a Mr. Basketball's team didn't make it to the regional tournament? If I am not mistaken, during at least the last 10 years every Mr. Basketball has taken his team to at least the semi-finals of the regional tournament. I think the last 10 have all been district champions as well.

Mr. Basketball is supposed to signify the best senior player in the state, not for how far a player leads his team in the post-season. I have seen both play a couple of times and Pettigrew is the better player and should get Mr. Basketball.

The award is about the best senior in the state, which has nothing to do if he was the best player on his team. Also, Matt Walls wouldve lead E-Town to a better overall season and out of districts, he makes his team better(in practice and in games) No one on this years Scott Countys team had any Sweet 16 exp. besides Walls. Im not saying they wouldnt have won it w/o him but him being there before he led by example on and off the court for how to rest between games. So overall he was the leader and captain on the best team in the state and a team that has accomplished more than any team in 60 years.

Do you believe Walt Allen was best senior player in the state last year. If he had not made it to regional last year he would of not won it period. Getting to state with a subpar performance solidified it. Matt Walls deserves the award bases on last years Mr. Basketball. Nothing against Walt and I am glad he won it. Face the facts. Walls showed everyone all season against great competition his quality of play.

The award is supposed to be to the best player in the state ... period. How far a player's team advanced in the postseason is one factor to consider, but it's far from the most important.

Don't know if it was the last time, but didn't Rex Chapman's Apollo team get upset in district his senior year?
