  1. Walls. Its all about helping your team win, not individual stats.
  2. Now another question, and I hate to second guess Renner when I am sure he knows twice as much about coaching his team than all of us put together, but would it have benefitted Ballard in the 4th quarter last night if he had rested his starters when he was ahead of Clark County by 30 points. My guess is that it would not have had as great an impact as with resting Scott County's players. Ballard is so deep, they played 11 kids last night, that it would probably had no impact. I think I still would have rested Beckham and a couple others.
  3. you're right, I was just ribbing you a little for being so critical of Hicks when he has done so well up there. I think your exact words were something like. "Hicks is a good practice coach but he is not good in games".
  4. I know the people close to the SC program wanted to play South. They felt like Holmes presented much more matchup problems for SC.
  5. The big question is which was the tougher tournament to win for Scott Co, the Sweet 16 or the 42nd dist/11th region? I don't think most outside the 11th region realize this was like most teams having to win two Sweet 16s back to back.
  6. The state tournament had a lot of records that were not correct. Billy Hicks should have been listed in the list of coaches that had won the most Sweet 16 games. He had won 14 before this year. Scott Co should have been listed in the list of most consecutive Sweet 16 wins with 7 in 98 and 99. Clay Co should have been listed with 7 in 88 and 89 I think. The KHSAA also presented Hicks with an award for winning his 500th game during this season. He won his 500th game in the Sweet 16 in 2000. He has almost 700 now. Someone needs to take a good look at their records at KHSAA.
  7. Ray Charles could have done better than he did in the SC-Adair game.
  8. 1948- Brewers 2007- Scott County
  9. Hicks demands his teams be very intense. He leads by example.
  10. Catzrule: Do you still feal that Hicks is not a good coach and that Scott Co would do better with someone else?
  11. I'm going to disagree with you on that one Hoops. I thought he had a bad game in the finals also. Does anyone know what region he represented?
  12. Hicks intentionally sat his starters as many minutes as he could the first couple games. He knew a war was coming Saturday.
  13. Rinner and Hicks are two of the state's best. You don't have programs like theirs without great coaches.
  14. I have talked with officials. He knows just how far to go and not cross the line. I think he had one technical all year. That was at Lex Cath in the first 2 min of the game and he was sitting down talking with his assistant. The official had his back to him and "thought" Hicks said something to him.
  15. I really thought SC clicked on all cylinders against Holmes. Holmes was a much better team than most think. They never played with all their starters until the regional tournament.
  16. Holmes had a great tournement. It took Scott County's best effort to oust the Dogs.
  17. Schue, how was the big celebration in G'town. In 1998 everyone gathered at the gym after they got back to Georgetown. The paid attendance tonight was 18,370. I would bet about 10,000 of them were in cardinal red. The only fan base I have seen bigger was the Breckenride fan base in the 95 Sweet 16. I know Mason had some big crowds in the Fieldhouse years.
  18. My thoughts exactly. See the last sentence of post #17.
  19. Sandbaging? No. Trying to conserve energy in their key players? Without a doubt.
  20. He had just as horrible game in the finals.
  21. This season was amazing in a lot of ways. First, SC lost their leading scorer and rebounder before the season even started. Then to go undefeated against at least 11 top 10 teams in the state. To add to that a win against the #1 team in the nation. In all reality, I thought Ballard outplayed them in every phase of the game tonight until the final 5 minutes. Every kid Hicks had except Hundley was in serious foul trouble. It seems like any minute Ballard was about to explode to an 18 or 20 point lead. Mackey put them on his back down the stretch. Playing so little in the first half due to foul trouble may have been a blessing is disguise.
  22. In 1994 Harlan had the 13th region tournament stolen. Billy Hicks was not the coach, Mike Jones was.
  23. One of the three was very very very human yesterday.
  24. I know that the Scott Co people were hoping for a South Laurel win for that reason.
  25. I think Scott County's enrollment is closer to 1700 than 1840.
