  1. Lexington Herald has named their Coach of the Year JC Wright of Central Hardin second Chris Renner of Ballard third Kerry Stoval of Christian County fourth Coach of the Year is voted on by the State's Coaches
  2. First Team All-State (listed in order of votes) Pettigrew- E'town Walls- Scott Co Miller- Mason Co Proffitt- South Laurel Mackey- Scott Co Brooks- Doss Anderson- Warren Central Beckham- Ballard Knowles- Clark Co VanHoose- Russell
  3. What are the negatives of having a lot of assistant coaches on the bench? I don't understand why this is an issue.
  4. The more I read all of the above posts, the more I think the rules are fine just as they are. No changes needed. Do we really need to complicate the game further by: having a rule limiting the number of assistant coaches? having a rule that the officials must come onto the floor at the same time as the teams? having a rule that the home team can not have a shoot-around before the JV game? The only thing I would change is to do away with the media timeouts in the televised games. There were way too many.
  5. A shot clock would only lead to more "pack it in" zone defenses. I'm against it. When a team is behind they would have no incentive to force the action on defense if there was a shot clock. As far as three man ref crews, I saw a ton of basketball this year. I don't think I saw a two man crew all year. However, all the games I watched had teams in the top 25. Time Outs. Time outs should only be reduced in games with media timeouts, such as the Sweet 16 and the Scott Co/Huntington games. As far as number of coaches be limited, someone please explain why this is an issue. If a team has 6 assistant coaches do they have an advantage? I don't think so.
  6. IF, and that's a huge IF, Whitaker goes to Corbin to be Tony P's assistant, that would really solidify Corbin's chances of being the #1 team in the 13th in preseason.
  7. I don't think the voters agreed with you and I LMB. Its a done deal. Pettigrew will be anounced Mr. Basketball at E'town High School at 2PM today.
  8. You could be right. That was in 1986 if I remember correctly. That's 21 years ago. Mike Jones was promoting Nic Sanford for Mr. Basketball at Cawood in 1986. Good thing there was not internet message boards back then.
  9. So when was the last time a Mr Basketball did not make it out of the distict? Does anyone have an idea?
  10. Just out of curiosity, when was the last time a Mr. Basketball's team didn't make it to the regional tournament? If I am not mistaken, during at least the last 10 years every Mr. Basketball has taken his team to at least the semi-finals of the regional tournament. I think the last 10 have all been district champions as well.
  11. If Mr. Basketball is a "one man show" award my vote would go to John Smith of Harlan High School. He averaged over 30 points a game on a pretty bad team.
  12. Show you guys are saying we should penalize Walls because he was on such a great team? Where is it written that you must be a "one man show" to win the Mr. Basketball player award?
  13. If Pettigrew wins it may be the first time in recent history that Mr. Basketball's team lost 11 games and didn't win a game against a top 15 team in the state.
  14. I would go along with that. No team accomplished more.
  15. Through Cary, over Arjay mountain and through Beverly and Queendale? I wouldn't think you could make that trip in much under 90 minutes. Of course you could make a rest stop at the Hwy 66 Chicken Fighting arena at Big Creek on the way.
  16. Probably takes about 1 1/2 hours to get from Log Mountain to Hazard.
  17. CovCath was very good this year and Brossart was decent but I wouldn't exactly call St Henry, Cov Holy Cross, and Highlands state powers.
  18. I doubt the SC job pays much more than other county high schools in central Kentucky. I think Hicks makes much more on his camps than any coach in the state. Most coaches have one week of basketball camp. Hicks has several weeks of camp with morning and evening sessions. The camps are very well attended by kids throughout central Kentucky and a few from out of state. The Lousville high schools pay less coaching pay than any public schools in Kentucky. However, their teacher's salaries are tops in the state so in the end the pay is about the same.
  19. I think there are, just not from Ohio. Scott Co played the state champs frow West Va. (twice), Nevada, Florida, and the top team from Baltimore. One year Scott Co played 8 games against state champions.
  20. I was told recently, by a father who had a son play in this game, that they charge the kids $250 to play in this game. That don't sound right.
  21. I really don't think the Enquirer is a very good high school sports newspaper, other than covering the GCL in football. The Courier-Journal in Louisville and the Lexington Herald are much better for high school basketball fans. Does Gallatin County have a local newspaper that covers their games? As far as local newspapers that do a good job of covering their geographical area check out the Harlan Daily Enterprise, the Times Tribune in Corbin, the Ashland Independent, and the Georgetown News. All of these are online. They wont be covering Gallatin Co but I enjoy reading about teams all across the state.
