  1. Seems the kids played better when "over excited" and "over hyped" than after he was suspended and later dismissed. I think the hyped to the max, balls to the wall, system works OK for his uncle. Wouldn't you agree?
  2. And if its because his teams usually beat Mason County, that's just the way it is.
  3. You misunderstood my comment. Let me see if I can explain it on your an Oldham County level. "If a kid is good enough to start at Ballard, Mason County, Scott County, etc., they are probably could enough to contribute at Transylvania, Centre, Union, Berea, etc." Compare the rosters of Centre for example with the roster of Holmes or Scott County. Yes the kids at Centre are stronger and older but the kids at Holmes and Scott Co are more talented. I think its close to the same level. I really don't think Centre or Union could beat Huntington this year.
  4. There is a chance Walls and Pettigrew will be playing on the same college team, Marshall.
  5. It may be easier to list the schools Curt hasn't coached.
  6. The most under appreciated coach in the state may be Champ Ligon at Bryan Station. I watched all the good teams play this year, most several times. Bryan Station may have had the 3rd best team in the state. The defenders lost 6 games in the state of Ky, 3 of those were to Scott Co and 1 was to Ballard. When Ligon came to BS they were absolutlyhorrible. He built this team from the ground up.
  7. Schue, you can call me crazy all you want but look at this roster. http://www.centre.edu/web/athletics/basketball_m/roster_basketballm.html Now look at this roster. http://scottcountysports.olinesports.com/ Now, tell me that the high school team couldn't compete with the NCAA D3 team. I have known of a few kids that started at NCAA D3 and NCAA D2 schools that never started in high school. I think one year in the 80s Union College had 3 starters that never started a game for their high school teams, and they hadn't played high school at powerhouse programs.
  8. I am sure that Centre college could beat Garrad Co. I am not sure Centre could have beaten Scott Co, Ballard, Holmes, or Warren Central this year. This is not a knock on Centre. Heck Centre is a beautiful place and Danville is one of my favorite towns. I know that the high school head jobs pay more than the D3 and NAIA2 head jobs MOST of the time. I remember asking a very successful head coach about applying for an NAIA2 job once. He said he would have to take about a 50% cut in pay going from the HS job to the NAIA2 job.
  9. http://www.courier-journal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070420/SPORTS05/704200536/1031 Billy Hicks was named CJ coach of the year. About a week ago he was named LHL Coach of the Year. Others who received over 10 votes were: 1. Hicks, Scott Co 2. Wright, Central Hardin 3. Renner, Ballard 3. Ligon, Bryan Station 5. Riley, Warren Central
  10. My exact words were that going from a head high school coach to an assistant coach at a D3 school was not a "jump" or promotion. I stand by that statement. Now do you really consider that wearing out the Garrad Co coach? Don't you feel that's a bit of an exageration? I also stand by the statement that if you can play for a top high school team in Kentucky you can probably play for a NCAA D3 or NAIA D2 school. I will stand by that statement as well.
  11. Haddix was Scott County's leading scorer and rebournder in the 05/06 season. He had better numbers than Mackey or Walls.
  12. You have to remember we are talking D3 basketball. I think if a kid can play at a top Kentucky high school they can play at the NCAA D3 or NAIA D2 level. There isn't a lot of difference.
  13. So the coach was "too fired up and intense" and the kids couldn't "relax". I think most of the successful coaches I know want their kids playing intense and if they are indeed playing "relaxed" they will find themselves relaxing on the end of the bench.
  14. Going from a high school head coaching job in Kentucky to an assistant as a Division 3 college is not a jump at all.
  15. Bishop Brosart had 6 games against top 25 teams this year. That is a pretty good schedule but not compair to some of the 11th region teams' schedules. Brossart was 2-4 against top 25 teams.
  16. Unless the Walls family has a lot of cach, he would be better off taking a full ride to Xavier or some other nice school than to pay his own way to UK.
  17. Who was coach of the year in the Louisville Courier Journal?
  18. Another kid who easily deserved to be on first team is Shelvin Mack at Bryan Station. However, looking down the list there is not a single kid that made first team that I could take off. There are just a lot of good ball players in Kentucky this year. Lots more than most years.
  19. I would have selected Hill second team at a minimum.
  20. Maybe, just maybe, the reason Scott Co has talent each year is because of their basketball program. It don't just fall out of the air.
  21. Was Hill by chance one of the CHHS players suspended for much of the season? If not he should be on the second team. If he was I wouldn't even put him on honorable mention. I don't see a single player on the list that is not deserving of first team all state this year.
  22. http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_105003648.html?keyword=secondarystory The above artilcle is a "must read" for those interested in this case. The Ashland Independent does a great job of covering high school sports in their area.
