  1. What's a Harlan Co fan to do? Cawood plays JBS and Cumberland plays Tates Creek. Both games are at 4:30 PM.
  2. JBS still made it out of Pool play as the #2 Pool position.
  3. Tates Creek and Cumberrland will be an interesting game for those following 13th region basketball.
  4. From reading the article it sounds as if she is talking about basketball. As far as teaching, it has been written that Ligon is one of the best math and physics teachers in the school.
  5. Gladys Peoples sounds like a real genius. A top 5 program in the state of Kentucky is not meeting "the high expectations and standards we have for our students up to this point"?
  6. Fern Creek has beaten South Laurel for the #2 position in Pool 3. South Laurel has been eliminated from the tournament.
  7. Pool 2. Montgomery Co beat June Buckanon by 14 for the #1 position. Sounds as if the new Montgomery has the Indians playing well this summer. Both teams will advance.
  8. Somerset went 13-14 last year. The best instate teams they played were South Laurel and Lincoln Co, losing both games. Somerset seems to alternate between 20 win seasons and .500 seasons. I don't have a clue who the Home Schoolers are.
  9. Pool 1 Rockcastle Co 75- St Patrick 70. Scott Co (1) and Middlesboro (2) advance. Pool 2 Mongomery Co and June Buckanon advance. These two teams are playing now for the #1 pool position. Pool 3 Tates Creek (1) advances. Fern Creek and South Laurel are playing for the #2 pool position Pool 4 Ellioit Co advances, Cumberland will probably get the #2 position Pool 5 Undetermined Pool 6 Undetermined Pool 7 Lex Christian and Clay Co play at 7:30 tonight for the #1 and #2 position Pool 8 Undetermined Pool 9 Boone Co and Knox Central play at 7:30 pm for the #1 amd #2 position
  10. More scores from early afternoon. Pool 1 Scott Co 95- Middlesboro 72 Pool 6 Franklin Simpson 76- Red Bird 47 Pool 7 Lexington Christian 51- Buckhorn 43
  11. These are the results of Thursday and up to noon on Friday Pool 1 Middlesboro 65- Rockcastle Co 51 Middlesboro 64- St. Patrick 38 Scott County 82- St. Patrick 29 Scott County 76- Rockcastle Co 36 Pool 2 June Buckanon 74- Owen Co 44 June Buckanon 73- Lynn Camp 45 Montgomery Co 70- Owne Co 43 Montgomery Co 83- Lynn Camp 65 Pool 3 Tates Creek 90- Fern Creek 86 Tates Creek 69- South Laurel 49 South Laurel 72- Southwestern 62 Fern Creek 87- Southwestern 61 Pool 4 Elliot Co 71- Cumberland 59 Elliot Co 69- Sayre 40 Jackson Co 65- Sayre 47 Cumberland 65- Jackson Co 60 Pool 5 Kentucky Home Schoolers 75- Somerset 68 Cawood 50- Hazard 49 Pool 6 East Jessimine 80- Breathitt Co 64 Breathitt Co 86- Red Bird 56 Pool 7 Clay Co 45- Buckhorn 42 Lexington Christian 75- Monticello 52 Pool 8 Pineville 65- Oneida Baptist 48 Wayne Co 78- Butler 63 Pool 9 Boone Co 75- Boyle Co 48 Boone Co 87- Cordia 55 Knox Central 65- Cordia 45 Knox Central 67- Boyle Co 54
  12. I think you got them all except South Laurel.
  13. Thacker has won right at 60% of his games at Somerset. He averages 18 wins per year and 12 loses per year. Pretty decent.
  14. I don't know. I have seen that similar style work well at other SE KY schools that are smaller than WCHS. I think the style Champ coaches actually develops the talent you have much better than the slower paced, zone defense, half court, types. Kids also enjoy it more and will play harder. It also will get more kids playing time. I didn't mean for this to get into a debate about coaching styles.
  15. You don't think a hard pressing, man to man, fast breaking, full bore, "balls to the wall" style would fit in southeastern Kentucky? Don't get me wrong. I don't think Ligon would come to Whitley County. However, IF he did and IF he stayed for three years WCHS would be a regional contender.
  16. I know its a long shot, but I would at least put a phone call in to Champ Ligon. He has a lot of upside. He has the reputation for being an excellent physics and algabra teacher. His record at Bryan Station speeks for its self. Bryan Station's basketball program was in much worse shape than Whitley County's when Champ arrived. The only reason I think Whitley Co may have a shot, and its a long shot, is that Bryan Station waited till up in June to fire him, when most all the head coaching vacancies were filled. The second call would go to Whitaker. I think Whitaker was a much better coach than the Bell Co people give him credit for.
  17. 2000 Jackson City 6-19 2001 Evarts 16-13 2002 Evarts 14-13 2003 Evarts 10-19 2004 Evarts 10-16 2005 Menifee Co 11-17 2006 Frankfort Girls 6-20 I think, but am not absolutly sure, the above is where Rick Parsons has been since 2000.
  18. Jimmy Voight was my favorite. I think he would have built a program if he had stayed. Its a shame Deaton is leaving before the job is done. Whiltley Co is a sleeping giant for the right coach. However, its going to take someone willing to WORK for 3 or 4 years to get it done.
  19. Evarts had won about 2 or 3 the year before he took over. They won 10, 14 & 20 the folllowing 3 years. Harlan had won 2 or 3 the year before. They won 14, 24, and 26 the nex three years. I think Corbin only won 3 or 4 the year before. They won 14 the first year and about 25-30 per year the next 7 years. I think he would have won more about 10 his first year, about 1/2 of them his second, and about 20 his 3rd.
  20. More great comments from Mike Fields. http://fieldsnotes.wordpress.com/
  21. Westsider and Schue are correct. The KHSAA no longer permits member schools to play teams that are not apart of their state's association or do not follow the rules of the national association. This is one rule I agree with. Oak Hill, Harmony etc. are not high school teams by any stretch of the imagination. Harmony even allows kids to play that are not students at the Harmony school. Hound mentioned the Cawood-Oak Hill game when Stackhouse was at Oak Hill. If I remember correctly Oak Hill was up something like 62-10 at the half and Cawood got their first rebound in the 3rd quarter. Cawood also played Oak Hill when Shorter (Pittsburg) was their star. I think Lexington Catholic beat Oak Hill in the 97/98 season. LC was ranked #3 in the US. For some reason this game has been changed to a 0-0 tie on LC's record.
  22. I didn't know Somerset's head coaching position was open. What happened to Thacker?
  23. Is this the same Allen that inherited a Bryan Station girls team that had gone 19-10 under Jackie Williams as recently as 2005 and went 7-23 under Allen this year or is it a different Michael Allen?
  24. Mike Fields blog. http://fieldsnotes.wordpress.com/
  25. Those Greenup Co. fans are the wildest bunch of baseball fans I have ever seen. They dispute every ball and strike call that don't go their way. The are a very passionate.
