2007 Cumberland Falls Inv.

Featured Replies

Does anyone know the teams for the 2007 Cumberland Falls Inv. in Corbin?

A couple of names have been thrown around town. I heard

Jackson County, Corbin, Boiling Springs SC, Union SC, Sarasota High Fl, Muhlenburg North, Upperman Tn and Maybe another team from Orlando Florida or South Laurel. Ask Terry Joe Martin he usually has the scoop on the CFIT.

Didn't Shelby Valley win it last year?If so would they be invited back?

I do not think Terry Joe gets the teams anymore. I heard they still need two teams. Does anyone know who gets the teams anymore?

It is know wonder that this tournament is droping off. If they still need two teams this late they will be hard to fine.

If any of the teams I mentioned are in the field, say half of them it will be very strong indeed. I do not see a drop off in the tournament. If anything is hurting it I would say it is the 5th third tourney and all the extras they have to offer. I am sure the Varsity club will find a good selection of teams. The out of state teams are always fun to watch and usually very athletic. I am glad to see teams from Tennessee and Florida returning to the Falls.

I have been to the CFIT many times and hear coaches say they will never be back because of refs..

From my understanding that is why Terry Joe is no longer getting the teams. He had a lot of problems with a few of the refs and did not get the support needed to keep a few of them from not calling or not calling Corbin's games.

I think Corbin should go out and get an Oak Hill or Mt. Zion type team one year. Yes, its true that no other team would stand a chance but it would bring a buzz back to the CFIT. If the varsity club can have a Moeller vs Male (both top 6 nationally) for the Pigskin Classic, they can get a top 10 National team to the CFIT.

I was just told at lunch that they may be getting a team from New York City.

Corbin can't bring in Oak Hill or Mount Zion ... Kentucky schools are prohibited from playing them.

North Laurel and Wayne County both played them during Rondo's senior year. Cawood played Oak Hill too back in the early 90s if I recall correctly. It may have been when they had Stackhouse and Curtis Staples.

And since that time the KHSAA instituted a ban on KHSAA-affiliated schools playing against them. That's why when Oak Hill plays in Ky, such as in the Bourbon Co. showcase, they play against another prep school. Many other states' athletic associations have instituted similar bans against their teams playing prep schools in recent years.

Westsider and Schue are correct. The KHSAA no longer permits member schools to play teams that are not apart of their state's association or do not follow the rules of the national association. This is one rule I agree with. Oak Hill, Harmony etc. are not high school teams by any stretch of the imagination. Harmony even allows kids to play that are not students at the Harmony school.

Hound mentioned the Cawood-Oak Hill game when Stackhouse was at Oak Hill. If I remember correctly Oak Hill was up something like 62-10 at the half and Cawood got their first rebound in the 3rd quarter. Cawood also played Oak Hill when Shorter (Pittsburg) was their star.

I think Lexington Catholic beat Oak Hill in the 97/98 season. LC was ranked #3 in the US. For some reason this game has been changed to a 0-0 tie on LC's record.
