Bryan Station fires basketball coach

Personally, I find this absolutely ridiculous. There should be schools lining up and knocking each other down to get this guy. He's done a fantastic job at BS.

I didnt see it coming. He has done great things at Station. It will be interesting to see who ends up there, they have big shoe to fill.

This is absolutely rediculous. I don't think there are 5 coaches in the state that could have turned BS around as quickly as Champ. Whats even worse is Peoples waited until June to dismiss Ligon, when most all other head coaching vacancies have been filled. Not only was the BS basketball team a winner but they always showed a lot of class. This is more than can be said for the principal, assistant principal, and AD at Bryan Station.

Does anyone know the real reason for this? There's got to be something to this that we don't know. Results were too outstanding for him to get fired unless there is a story here we haven't heard.

Ligon brought credibility back to the Bryan Station program. Prior to his arriving, they were losing impact players to other schools in Lexington.

 

Sounds like the principal has a plan in mind. Who will be the replacement?

I agree, there has to be an underlying reason for getting rid of someone who can turn a program around like that so quickly????!!!!:irked:

There must be a good reason. Otherwise, I would think Fayette Public Schools are in for a lawsuit.

This is a sad day! Very nice man. Does this mean all the summer games at Bryan Station have been cancelled?????

Wow this is a shocker. I have been very impressed with Coach Ligon. This is a shame for Bryan Station to lose him as coach.

Champ has worked hard to rebuild BS. They have a top team coming back. He has started a nice tournament. The KABC needs to step up. Coaches in this state have no representation. Teacher unions will not do anything for coaches. They will protect terrible teachers but not good coaches. Coaches can be fired for no reason at all and there is little they can do about it.The KABC needs to take the lead and start a coaches union in this state. BTW, Louisville Valley fired longtime coach Freddy Copass last week after 37 years of service to that school. The new principal walked in said, "your services is no longer needed here." No thank you for your time or good job, nothing.

Firing coaches for reasons other than legal issues after April 30th is not supposed to happen, unless the KDE has changed its way. Many coaches let go after a certain date can sue the school and at least be compensated financially.

 

Champ Ligon did an outstanding job at Bryan Station, was a good person and well respected among the coaching community. Best wishes to him and future endeavors, I'm sure he will land somewhere and do a great job.

Why in the world would they let someone go that has done so much good for a program? :confused:

 

From what I've read, there doesn't seem to be any justification for this.

 

I don't have any ties to this school, but the student athletes and parents deserve a better explanation that what has been presented so far!

I heard something about the reasoning for letting him go was the Billy Donovan has excepted the Bryan Station job. This comes from a very credible source.

 

In all seriousness though, when my team played again BS they were very classy while handing it to us every time. They have a great team coming back and unless Ligon has messed up something there is absolutely no reason for him to be fired.
