I personally feel that the action taken upon this coaches' livelyhood by removing him from his position may be an action of discrimination that the station may not wish to pursue.

Although there is much discrimination against african americans, discrimination against white professionals in sports is not unheard of.

 

With no other reason given for his firing, and his excellent record one must conclude that the station under its political pressure is going to try to hire a black coach.

I am hearing that Allen will probably be the new coach at Bryan Station. It is a political move, not one based on common sense. I was just listening to the Joe B and Denny show and Coach Ligon was on. Coach Hall was very upset about the situation. If he leaves the city of Lexington has lost a great coach.

I just want them to hire the best man for that job. Maybe they will let Champ reapply for the position!!!!!! You don't think the Reverend Colemone had anything to do with this do you. The program has now stepped back another ten years.

Is it just me or does it seem like whenever there is a successful coach forced out regardless of the sport, there is usually a female principal behind it?

School Politics can be brutal. Coaches should have tenure just like in the classroom. Once a guy has proven he can lead a program and do the right things he should have some job security. Face it, in Kentucky a Basketball coach is one of the most well known figures for a school. If he acts outlandish then everyone sees it. The media, fans, parents and players all are watching each night out on the floor. The scoreboard is his report card. Win or lose it is recorded and plenty of witnesses. I feel for Coach Ligon, it seems he has been wronged. No doubt the effects of this decison will impact his family and his players. It is sad when people throw away a good person and a coach who has put in countless hours working in this program. Coaches need a safety net.

Eleven days ago, Champ Ligon was fired as the boys' basketball coach at Bryan Station High School because the principal said he failed to live up to the program's expectations.

 

Friday, in a quick turn of events, Ligon was rehired as coach by Principal Gladys Peoples.

 

"He understands that the program has not been meeting the high expectations and standards we have for our students up to this point," Peoples said in a statement. "But he is sincere in his desire to help our students and to move the program to the next level. We have decided that we can work together next year and elevate our boys' basketball program."

I thought the same thing when I read it. One thing though, is she talking about the grades of the players or the play on the court?
